No twe were not sure what we had left to pay on the car.
Therefore we went to the card machine and said this to him so he double checked and def said it was £8,000 so we paid and signed for the car.
Half an hour later another £2000 was taken without authority so am I purely asking where I stand.0 -
Ignoring all the unauthorised payments for a moment, - How much did you agree to buy the car for? and how much did you end up paying? and surely you have a contract document with them saying how much you had agreed to pay in total for the vehicle - what does this say?0

What did you originally agree to pay for the car?
Does your £deposit + £8000 = price of car?0 -

Surely you know if it was £8000 or £10000. Stop messing around and give us the facts then we can advise accordingly.
If you owed them £10,000 because that was the agreement, then you will have to pay the extra £2,000 at some point.
So although it is wrong/illegal for them to take the £2,000 without your authorisation in this situation the two wrongs kind of make a right. However i would still be complaining to the garage about how they went about resolving the problem of underpayment.
If the agreed amount was your intial deposit plus £8,000 then they owe you £2000 simples.0 -
well it seems the cofusion is around the scrappage as we thought our invoice excluded scrappage and so did dealer but now he said this was wrong and thats why he took extra 2k later on0

Depending on what you you thought you were going to pay, and what your contract said. You can tell them to refund the unauthorised payment and keep the car for the agreed amount.
But all of this is guess work until you explain what you had agreed to pay for the car, and what you ended up paying for the car.0 -
Was this thread the OP's first post and therefore possibly a wind up?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

did you ring back?
maybe they took the 2k by mistake and were ringing you to tell you they need someone else to do the refund?0 -

Or maybe they are a normal poster who has set up an AE because they are trying to take advantage of an invoicing mistake and feel slightly (and rightly) guilty about it.
Unless they post the car & agreed price we’ll never know0 -
On our card machine the seller has all the c/c numbers printed on. They could have then typed in the numbers and issued a slip which can be signed by the buyer/seller. Go to the seller and ask to see copies of their slips and see if any signature is there, if so is it yours? Not likely to be, so any signature on the slip would be taking money without authorisation, ignoring whether they thought you owed them or not.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
