Yeah, but when it breaks and you want to take it back, what's the chances of the same person the argument was with still being there and remembering it? None.

So the same issue is going to arise again anyway! So why create a scene now when it's totally unnessary?

Because it speaks volumes for the company if they get such a simple query so disastrously wrong.

Its nto a simple query to the company though is it? Its people asking a bloke on minimum wage something they ALREADY knew the answer too and made him look stupid and probably feel stupid too..

Again, for those hard of reading - these guys dont get told much apart from how to use a till and about the goods they are selling.

They are also the first people you deal with in store if something does go wrong and you have to return an item.

so deal with it then. If you get no joy with him then you have his supervisor or manager to go too.

again, its no excuse to make the poor sod look stupid if you already know the answer is it?

That's EXACTLY what they did, they dealt with it BEFORE it became a problem not after,

But in all probability it wouldn't ever have become a problem. So it didn't need to be dealt with. The woman was only showing bullying tactics, and IMO should have been kicked out of the shop. No shop assistant should have to put up with such abuse, especially when it isn't their fault.

  • Jees why are you all arguing, as an ex Comet employee the salesman will have been scaremongering about the warranty to try to prime you for his Instant Replacment 3 year Cover. Simples.

And no customer should be wilfully mislead, see michael's post for a little inside information. It is common practice for retailers to deliberately mislead customers in this manner despite it being an offence in itself,

If we we're to believe you the vast majority of the retail sector are unaware of their legal obligations, if that's the case then they obviously need educating, and I agree far better the companies did it themselves rather than relying on the public to do so.

Not everybody is content to sit back and wait to be screwed, some of us prefer to avoid doing so if and when possible. If they are prepared to lie to you before they have your money what kind of response do you think it likely they will give after they have it?

  • But IIRC, this wasn't about warranty. It was about who's responsibility it was to fix it if something went wrong while still in warranty! Nothing to do with warranty sales. (Which are a pain in the a*se)

It is totally about the warranty, the salesman is incinuating to the customer that it will be difficult to get it sorted under the standard warranty. Thus priming him ready to tell them that if they took their 3 year instant replacemnt cover for £xx.xx then they would replace it as many times as necessary within 3 years no questions asked and if no replacment a refund whould be made.

Believe me a salesman would say anything if they thought it would increase their chances of earning comission. It may also be of note that during my entire two years there at no point was I made aware of my legal obligations to the customer.
