But surely the couple were asking a question that they already knew the answer to just to make a point. Why would they do that?

But they quite clearly knew the answer so why even bother asking? It was just to create an argument for absolutely no reason.

They may well have known the answer but it's clear the salesperson didn't or was prepared to mislead them before buying, it speaks realms as to the kind of service they will get should anything be wrong with or befall the appliance being considered, had the question not been asked then this fact would not have been readily apparent and to the detriment of the customer at a later date. Just wise shopping. Better to deal with a problem before it occurs rather than after.

    Ok, so here's a question for MSE'ers.

If when dealing with the Manufacturer instead of the retailer, they replace the faulty product, like for like or with a reconditioned item (as in the case of consoles)

Has the consumer then waived his rights with the retailer under SOGA for any fault that occurs with the replacement item?

Yep, put them in a room with sofware engineers and leave the agenda in the middle.

Leave for a considerably period of time.

They'll still be discussing where the agenda is!

That thread was two days ago and I'm still walking about with a big grin on my face!

So if your MOTOROLA mobile phone provided by ORANGE stops working 12months into an 18 month contract you would have thought that they would be responsible. apparently not

equally funny, every repair option cost £70. so I told them to stuff it bought a cheapie for £10 to be going on and will be switching at renewal

why on earth would you actually ask a sales guy what would happen to somethign if it broke within a year? The poor people dont get paid enough as it is without having to deal with a smart !!!! Pair of old people testing them out.

They only pass on the info that they are told by their bosses, so no wonder he went all red with embarassment. Poor lad bet youo the old gits never even wanted a photo frame in the first place.

it was the bloke who asked. He obviously was not sure.

When the sales guy then said "manufacturer" his wife stepped in and said its not its comet - then the argument ensued.

These days whenever I get asked at the till if I want to buy the extended cover I usually answer with:

"Why? Do they have a habit of breaking down? Maybe I should leave it then...."

    They don't usually ask again.....

LOL will have to remember that when i'm next in Comet or Currys at the stores off the A10 ;)
