Old Style Afternoon Tea Party

Sounds lush. What about free flowers from the garden (or garden from kind friend or neighbour) in little vases jugs on the tables?
Lots of paper doilies as well
Living and loving it0 -
Lovely idea - we love traditional afternoon teas and have used the theme for a number of celebrations. Paper doilies are still fairly cheap to buy and help with the theme and match with plain white napkins again to keep cost down.
Savoury little tarts are cheap and easy to make - pastry cases with cheese/onion/egg quiche type filling goes a long way and easier to serve than having to slice up a big quiche.
Home made sausage rolls again very economical to make and can be cut into little bite size pieces.
Little triangle sandwiches - egg and cress/cucumber(skinless)
/ham/jam or pinwheel sandwiches - cream cheese/sndwich spread.
Definitely little fairy cakes and if you can get someone else to help and make scones (or will be too much for you to deal with on your own as need to be fresh don't they).
Good luck!Be nice to each other

Afternoon all
Well as 'the wedding' approaches a girls day invitation has arrived to go to a friends to watch the wedding and have a spa hot tub afternoon.
I have volunteered to do a little food.
Why did I?
So I'd love you to help with food inspiration please, easy to serve, easy to carry too
Thanks0 -
scones, with clotted cream, cucumber sandwiches little fairy cakes and fruit cake i would say for the traditional food.0

Thats a nice thought, do an afternoon tea!
some posh sarnies and scones, thanks0 -
Make one of those Refrigerator Cakes that William likes - recipe's all over the place, including somewhere on MSE. It's a no bake 'cake' of just melted chocolate with stuff in it (biscuits, sultanas, syrup). Melt, mix it all in, refrigerate to set, cut into squares.0

Thanks, I'm far more inspired than my original idea of a scotch egg and a slice of pork pie
Quiche, a mixed salad, some posh sarnies, deffo champers and strawberrys!0 -
I'm doing an "English afternoon tea" for a few friends, we will be having things like home made scones ( so very easy to make) with clotted cream and strawberry jam put into little pots for people to help themselves. Cucumber sandwiches, egg + cress Sandwiches and a few other fillings ( all cut into triangles with the crusts cut off) Victoria sponge cake, assorted cup/fairy cakes and either a lemon drizzle or a cherry bakewell cake. Some shortbread biscuits, Big bowl of salad and various dips with carrots and breadsticks. Oh and Pimms
I am thinking of adding a trifle to this little mix to! Hmmm think I may have to add more savoury bits lol way to much cake there!
Hope this helps with some ideas0
