Hi Folks,
Here is an update.
I went into my local branch, if you can withstand the queues do so as you can withdraw upto 300 over the counter - beware you will be charged overdraft fees if you take out more than you have. - However they can't tell you how much you have in your account.
My branch advisors were telling me that this affected ALL banks nationally - so I went to three other banks (Barclays, Natwest, Abbey) all of which were taking my other bank cards and opperating fine.
I could not use my card in any other machine or pay for anything.
Do not believe branch advisors that this affects ALL banks. Halifax seems to be the major sufferer.
(after posting this I see the link above to the sky report.)0 -
Does this affect direct debits setup on your account?0
-
At a guess I would say so, as the computers are not talking to one another.
However as this is a bank failure - you should not get charged, just be put out by the effort it takes to smooth out the problems they've caused.
Here's hoping they didn't cut corners on back up systems and data storage!0 -
Im ok as the only 2 DD on my account are taken at the end of the month. Lucky that they're0
-
most direct debits will go out on working days ive never had mine go out on a weekend so if anything is due would ahve left account yesterday or will debit on monday.0
-
DDs only go on bank working days anyway
So unless the system is still down Sunday night there will be no effect.0 -
I had a similar problem it appeared to be in an endless redirect. Worried me at first I thought I might have caught a nasty virus. All ok soon after though.0

The hole-in-the-walls were affected early this morning after a power cut hit an IT centre in Yorkshire, an HBOS spokesman said.
The machines are expected to come back online this afternoon.
An HBOS statement said: "Due to external power disruption in Yorkshire, which has impacted one of our IT centres there, some Halifax and Bank of Scotland systems have been affected this morning.
"Power has now been restored to the centre via our back up generators.
"We are currently in the process of getting services back to normal. Our branches are open to support customers as usual. We apologise to customers for the disruption and inconvenience this has caused."
HBOS said card transactions were not affected
Also if they have a backup system, why are we suffering downtime? Isnt the point of a backup to stop any downtime0 -
