  • ...I agree that the pension is not currently sustainable.....

The pensions needs looking at for sure.

Firstly, apologies Graham, I couldn't help myself! ;)

However, glad to see you are coming aboard after all these years! :D
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...

I envy the money rent boys earn but I don't want to be one myself.

The public sector employs too many people, and pays too much for the skills they need. In recent years, the quality of essential services (schools, police, waste collection, roads) has declined whilst public servants invent for new roles themselves. Most of these roles are unnessary and many cause more harm than good.
    .

Which too many people, numbers with examples and how service provision would not be affected.

Pays too much, again like for l.ike examples please, an NHS Consultant and a bricklayer is not a like for like comparison.

How has service provision worsended? Proof please

New roles invented - again mnumbers examples

    Uneccessary/ causing harm... Numbers examples..

Do you really get away with this unsubstantiated nonsense in the private sector?

I look forward to getting the bill through the post now.
  • The GDP/Workforce argument is a false analogy. Unless the whole of the private sector was educated privately and have private health insurance?

In the public sector what is more improtnat is opportunity cost of inaction ie what would be lost if the public sector didnt intervene.

The edit button is great for those in both the public and private sectors, including those drinking their tea. ;)
  • The Public sector bible [The Guardian] doesnt though, and until it does am happy to correct any errors with self deprecation.

Have just realised in 10 years working for the Gvmt I havent had a negotiated pay rise more than inflation....

Welcome, username2003. Are you new round here? Enjoying your contribution....
  • Not new been around a while, just very uneven in terms of posting. Tried to avoid discussions such as these, but have failed for a couple of weeks. Need to get back to only posting positively and let yourself and fifer fight the good fight....

This is one department that needs the slashing of non-jobs immediately! This is largely agreed with by both the current Government, the Tories & Lib Dems. There are 85,000 civil servants at the MoD — one for every two active soldiers, the highest level among the Allied nations — and about 50,000 will get a performance bonus this year.

Col Bob Stewart, the former commander of United Nations forces in Bosnia, said he was “absolutely staggered” by the bonus payments. “No civil servant should be getting any kind of a bonus when our country is broke and our troops are fighting for their lives,” he said. :T

    They should be ashamed!

The uk, unlike much of nato, uses cheaper to employ civil servants rathwr than soldiers to do jobs that don't need to be done by a soldier
The bonus scheme is a way of avoiding pensionable pay increases and so saving taxpayers money

You have asked for the evidence and then ranted in the same post.

School playgrounds have been sold off. Class sizes are getting bigger. Universities and employers increasingly having retrain school leavers in basic skills. Police stations and police in the community have declined rapidly in recent years. Bin collections are now only every fortnight. Public WCs have almost dissapeared. Traffic wardens are no longer public servants but profit centres. UK public transport has become one of the most expensive in the world. Local council officials now force their way into peoples houses. Road verges are littered with millions of signs as the roads themselves fall apart. Unfinished road works are everywhere.
