Aaah, the wonders of the Daily Mail.
Aaah, that well used old chestnut on MSE, even when they refer to official figures, widely available on other media! :rotfl:There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -

Very Lucky.....getting my share too since I'll be lucky to get anything.
I'm looking at a 0%.
And before anyone jumps on it, I'm not suggesting for a minute I'm entitled to more. I'm merely stating that I'm looking a 0% payrise so to claim that public sector employees are enjoying 2.8% is quoite plainly wrong.

The figure is an average and should you disagree with it I suggest you take it up with the ONS, another Government organisation. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -
Sorry, incorrect. Private schools pay more. And will take unqualified teachers.
And re the first area, I know civil servants who work long beyond set hours, and are unable to take leave due, due to there being far too much work that needs doing to be able to take the leave. This is thanks to mass redundancies in govt depts over the last decade, which left handfuls of staff trying to do the work of several people each.
Are sure about as my wife is a teacher and would love to work in a private school but they do not pay as well. She also know someone who is high up in a very expensive private school. They offered some supply work as she is part time it was about 2/3rds of what she could get for supply at a state school.0 -
Anyone who works for local government knows of teams that are overstaffed. I recently discovered an old post I used to be in now has two individuals doing it which is quite ridiculous. Ive worked in other teams back when I was a student and there were 5 people doing the same job that only required 2 people, 3 at a very push.
Its frustrating when you are in a team where you are really busy and often find yourself working upaid overtime and doing aspects of your job in your own free time.
Its simply not possible for my small team of 4 to be reduced however my faith in my councils ability to carry out these inevitable job cuts is extremely low.0 -
Can I ask a stupid question?
Why are councils horribly overstaffed? Why is it not that over time posts dont just get removed when people retire or move on?0 -

At last, some honesty here! However, it's a view largely exposed by many other people that have worked in the public sector, mainly civil servants, but is largely poo poo'd by those that work today, no doubt to protect their largely safe jobs. :rolleyes:There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -

Well, that's funny, because I know of lots of examples the reverse. I'm a teacher too, by the way.0 -

Do bother to read my answer before replying.
My point was that the Daily Mail missed out the relevant bit about bankers - clearly too complicated for its readers to understand... :rolleyes:0
