hi rt - sometimes it is worth missing the odd celebration... I had to miss my sis's wedding abroad - sad but would have cost a minimum of £400 just in flights plus hotel costs and I think it would have left me crying in a corner!
At least when the debt is clear we will have so much more freedomAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Happy - hope the eye is getting better! And hope the free dinner was good. My mum loves to feed me up, unfortunately my folks are 350 miles away, so it wouldn't be the most economical meal...
IMD - I'm quite rubbish at the competitions. I'm building up slowly. Yesterday was good though, I got 2 surveys on pureprofile, and am now only 75p away from being able to claim my £25! :T Very excited about this. Unfortunately, as this months budget is shot to pieces, I won't be able to use it for overpayments.
SavingHolmes - thats a real shame about your sisters wedding. But as you say, its just about learning to say 'I can't afford it'. People don't say that often enough. Its like a taboo statement, admitting you don't have endless supplies of cash! Our next event is this saturday, a friends birthday, but involves an hours drive and dinner/drinks. We agreed to it ages ago. I don't think we should go, but OH thinks we should as we agreed to go. Will do the sums and see if we can afford it. I still need to pay for my works christmas party this month. Luckily, OHs work party is all paid for by work, including an overnight stay so we can both drink
This weekend was busy, but pretty cheap. Did have a couple of drinks out yesterday though. Hmmm. Not too bad I guess. Being good at going to the gym 3 times a week, so getting my moneys worth. And feeling better for the exercise. Made soup and rolls for the week at work, and got meals planned so shouldn't spend anything now until next weekend. Sorted the car insurance through Quidco, £28 cashback, although no email confirmation yet from Swiftcover. I'd have expected it straight away. Hope it all went through ok.
One bad thing - I can't pay my Egg loan payment this month. This will be my first default in over 2 years. a £12 fine from Egg, plus a charge from the bank (they've just reduced all their charges so can't remember how much it will be). Really depressed about this. I'm proud of the fact that we never default, we always pay, even if its just the minimums. But because I get paid quarterly, and we've had other expenses lately, its just gone a bit wrong. But, I have enough to pay everything else. So will have to suck up the fine and just try and make sure it doesn't happen again.
Just realised how long this post is. So hope everyone had a nice weekend and thanks for keeping reading!

RT - glad you're getting your use out of the gym, exercise helps me cope with the huge mountain to climb!
Have you managed to speak to Egg and told them you can't pay just to see if they are understanding or not?1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

IMD - I need to call them. Not looking forward to it though. Its due the end of the week. I'll call them tomorrow evening. I can't really call from the office as people will hear the conversation and I'm going straight to evening shift from work so no time today.
I'm not keen on paying gym membership but it is the cheapest one around here and I'm no good at running in the winter in the dark on my own in the cold and rain. I'm a wimp! haha.I do love it though, and so refuse to feel too bad about spending money. Plus, it works out about £2 a go at my current usage rate - less than a pint!0 -
Oh also, having been completely indecisive on the challenge front (15k or 20k) I've decided what I'd really like to do is split the difference. I would love to owe less than £70k by the end of 2010 - which means about £17.5k. Our debt has actually increased a bit I think this month because of maintenance things, but its close enough.
So I shall do my own challenge on here. I just need you all to drop by and kick my butt should I get lazy!!! I need to check all the numbers, see what paying the minimums will take us down to and then work out what extra we need. But it should be doable. Then in 2011 I can up the stakes! But will think of that one later...0 -
Hi rambling tree
good luck with the challenge - 17.5K is a lot so just think how pleased with yourself you'll be when you manage it, and don't worry we'll help you along *does stretches ready to administer butt kicking* :rotfl:
