Yes I shall have to look into both I think and then commit. I am looking at my debt as...the more I pay off the less the minimums are...so even tho still determined to overpay.

So it might be 4 years worth of £20k challanges, but if say by June next year you have seriously lowered your minimums, then you could think right no over paying for so many months and plan a small holiday??

Not sure if this is quite the right debt free thinking, but I can't bare to think of four years and no family holidays...I am happy to have cheapy hols, ie tent, caravan etc...but I think I will need something good to look forward to..and I bet its a fantastic feeling to save and then pay straight up front for one too

  • Yeah, thats true re. minimums. I think its healthy really. Its too hard to not have anything at all for 4 years. Some people can do it, but I don't think I'm one of them.

We actually have loads of air miles. Our aim is in 2011 to use them to go on a nice holiday. Free flights, and then a cheapish holiday once we're somewhere. Something to look forward to! And you're definitely right about the joy of paying for it up front! Wonder what that feels like?! hehe.
  • Oh is not a case of if it's a case of when really. This last 2 weeks he's generated 390 so it's helped get us to payday. He's doing quite alot of work helping his mate out and I'm happy for that it means we can clear some things quicker and be prepared for holiday come January I've made a friendly bet with him to generate an extra 2100 by 31/12 it's looking achievable so far so good. That will give us a good kick start x but till it's in your pocket you can't be too hopeful on reducing things x

  • wow, thats an amazing aim!! Good luck to your OH! If you achieve an extra 2100 by the end of the year 2010 will have an amazing start!!
  • wEll it's easier for him because he does computer stuff and his mate desperate for help and it's like a lads day you get paid for. I couldn't cope with more hours on my job above full time it's enough for me x x

Hi rambling tree - if the £20K challenge is too big to aim for you could go for the £15K paperhat challenge. I post regularly on that and we are a friendly bunch. One of us doodledo has cleared her debt altho some of that was thro selling her house.... Most of us are doing it thro salary, Make £10 a day challenge etc

    good luck

Another thought - we got 2 free holidays this year from time share companies - through doing surveys on myoffers - if you can cope with a bit of spam (perhaps set up a dedicated email) it might be worth a go! You can enter competitions and win prizes and things... If you join myoffers via a cashback site - you can also get a free £1

  • :hello: RT, hope you're having a better evening!

Echo what you say about not budgeting for treats and then going all out because you've deprived yourself. I am allowing ourselves a budget to enjoy ourselves so I don't fall off the wagon (again!) x

  • :hello:Evening all,
Well, this week was busy, challenging, irritating and stressful, but I got loads of work done, it was really productive and now I have the whole weekend off! So all good. Sat in front of the fire, enjoying a well earned beer.

Didn't go out for a colleagues birthday this evening. Feel a bit bad, but can't afford it, so feel better not going than I would have if I'd gone and spent money.

I know December is tough for everyone, but this will be a particularly tight one for us. But, OH and I have decided not to buy each other presents, I'm making chutney and truffles for the family as gifts, and we've got £30 to spend at Sainsburys on nice food and drink, so it should still be nice.

SavingHolmes - thanks for the info on the 15k challenge. I think actually, with the uncertainty of work, and a few weddings etc to go to next year, that might be a much better aim. So I shall try and join up and keep up to date! And I can always try and beat it rather than just make it!

Also need to get better at competition sites and things. I do Onepoll (currently at £31.20) and PureProfile (currently £22.20), Butlins Bingo (just got another £10) and Tombola (won £20 last week, but nothing else). But need to sign up OH and do a few more as well. Just need to be organised! I feel more notebooks coming on...

Just so much to organise! Loving it though. Feel the control... :rotfl:
Hope everyone has good weekend plans organised! I'm going to do as little as possible :D
