Cheapest PAYG Phone (merged threads)

I am just about to end my 12 months contract with Three Network because they are rubbish. I am wanting to go onto PAYG and also buy a new phone. What are the best offers around at the moment - I am willing to commit to a regular top-up if it means that I get free minutes. I also don't mind which network it is, as long as its not Three.

Where can I buy a cheap phone which will be compatible with my new sim?

Won't be using my old phone before anyone asks!

I need the simplest, cheapest PAYG phone. It is for my 10 year old daughter who is going to Germany with her school so this is an emergency phone and must work in Germany on UK SIM.

Are there any deals such as buying the phone for £20 and get £20 credit?

I have plenty of O2 and Virgin SIMs but no reliable spare phone can any one help with the cheapest option. Obviously I don't want to spend a fortune as I can see it being lost or broken.

Get it unlocked by the kind people on this forum. Then get your daughter (or someone on her behalf) to buy a local PAYG sim. Pop that in and get her to text you the number. You can then ring her very cheaply on her "German" phone. She sends you a text when she wants you to ring her...

Use the £25 of Virgin credit up then get it unlocked and put in an O2 PAYG sim. Regular top-ups will get either extra mins or texts.

Hi,

Years ago I treated my Grandad to a Phillips C12 mobile phone. He tells me today its not working. I recall reading here that this phone was being made obscelete !!!
Being 75 years of age, he just wants a basic as can be mobile phone to make calls with. Does anyone know of any cheap, basic pay as you go phones on sale anywhere ?
