  • I expect any business to make a profit, but is it 20% or 100% ?
I would go for the high end in this case. A rip off, trading on peoples grief.

When you take into account the cost for two men to remove and replace the stone, and one man to (carefully) carve the name knowing than one mistake would mean the whole headstone is compromised, I don't actually thinks it's too bad.

I will be having a cardboard coffin, cremation and scattering somewhere yet to be decided. Or, if my relatives so decide, they can turn my ashes into a diamond.

no, your the one making out it is a ripp off, so from that we have to assume that you know!!
of course their making an effing profit!!! wouldn't be much point of running a business if they wern't

Crikey, and you had the cheek to call someone else dense!!!

I hope you get well and truly ripped off one day. Do not complain if you do.

Another point to remember is that if you order it direct from the funeral director he is probably making a profit on the stone as well. You would be better to go direct to the memorial stonemason if you have one and again, shop around.

Moneysaving doesn't stop when someone dies ;) x

I also queried this charge for putting the headstone on with my local council as I couldnt understand the charge when they aren't having to do anything physically to warrant the charge - esp when I had already paid something like £500 for the grave we own to be opened.

I told my dad if he starts to feel unwell, he needs to put his best suit on, pick up his shovel and call a taxi lol. Will save a fortune lol

    lol, OK luv

hoping someone gets ripped off one day is pretty lame.
If I was genuinely ripped off, then I think I would be perfectly entitled to complain. It's the people who come on here shouting "scam" and "ripp off" when indeed it is not, that get's peoples backs up.

Makes you wonder what a New Headstone and wording would cost.

When we asked about this it was going to be about £1200 to 'shave off' a layer of the headstone and redo the whole thing as we were a bit worried the text we wanted wouldn't fit in properly with what was already there.

You tell me as you seem to know. But I still bet they are making a very good profit.

Cool - so we're agreed, then, that the "knee-jerk ...I don't know how much it should actually cost but I know I don't like the look of that price!!!... reaction from a position of near-total ignorance of pretty much every consideration touched upon" is where you're at.

You don’t actually have any idea what you’re talking about, do you?

Still, thanks for the clarification anyway :)

Squalid, spiteful and sad, as well as ignorant and gobby? My, what a catch you must be!

Still - at least you're not "to dense" [sic], eh?

Your not an undertaker by any chance ?

Why do you think that 500 odd quid for the work is not a rip off

Thats where the RIP on the stone comes from then !!!!!!
