MSE News: Ryanair to charge for Visa Electron bookings

I am totally perplexed by all the cards available for this right now!
I don't mind paying a small fee upfront, but I'd like something to transfer from my Halifax account to the card quickly, or where I can pay money in same day with free loads and no minimum. I don't mind paying either for a small transaction charge.
These cards are what I thought designed for people with poor credit, and therefore very very expensive to run.0 -
It's just another Ryanair scam!
Who is going to bother to find a pre-pay card, pay for its issue, often incur monthly maintenance fees, leave money sitting there with no interest, just to book with those scammers?
Whatever it is, it isn't a scam!
They have always said electron cards were accepted free as a limited period special offer.
They now include the same message about the prepay cards, so when they stop taking them free, we won't be able to shout "scam" then either:As a special offer to Visa Electron (VE) and Mastercard Prepaid Debit (MP) card holders, Ryanair, for a limited period only, will not apply an administration fee to those customers paying by these methods of payment.0 -
Personally, this suits me.
I already have a Caxton Card (I was using it in Dublin only this weekend) and I haven't got the inclination to be applying for various other bank accounts that are only good for an Electron card which is largely being phased out anyway.
As for the £100 loading minimum? I don't really find that an issue. If I'm flying overseas, it's likely that I'll be using the card for foreign spending anyway, which invariably costs more than £100.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I do not particularly like the word scam, but Ryanair's £5 per person per leg card fee is a blatant example of dishonest pricing. The German courts have rightly made short-work of O'Leary's shenanigans by stating that Ryanair can only advertise fares that can actually be attained by a payment method which is reasonably accessible and which does not necessitate paying more fees. What is needed is for the British authorities to follow the German example.0 -
Sounds as if you cannot think of a decent argument.0

Well, for the 3 or so people that are members of the Holmesdale Building Society, they will be able to pay with one of these: http://www.prepaid365.com/holmesdale-prepaid-card.html
E-mailed the Holmesdale today. Whilst they were happy to open up a savings account for me, unfortunately they no longer do pre-paid Mastercards!0 -
Its uncanny how they announce the news just a few days after they launch there own pre paid mastercard

£60 or 85 Euros per year as an "annual management fee", 50p/75c per transaction. I think we can safely write that there are other cards offering much better value.
