Should Ricky kick off about pocketed cash?

When I had my convenience store and a member of staff found any money, firstly we looked on the CCTV to see if we could see who had dropped it, if we couldn't see the customer or they weren't known to us, we used to staple the money in the shop diary and if it was unclaimed after a month the member of staff who found it got to keep it.0

I think some posters may have misunderstood the Ricky situation - or quite possibly I have!
I understood that he 'handed it in' and assume he gave it to a member of staff at the Customer Services desk or whatever and he/she pocketed the money. It's always best to challenge this kind of action as soon as it happens.
He should probably have had a very quiet word with the SA in question, asking if he/she was keeping the money safe to hand it in at the Manager's office, as another poster mentioned. That should be enough to shame them into doing the right thing. I agree that honesty is in short supply these days, but it's so heart-warming if you do lose something and find that some honest soul handed it in and you get it back!0 -

hello flickering ember - PLEASE don't give up - next time just report the bloke. What's with this thing in Britain about not wanting to be a 'sneak' - if something's wrong, be bold & courageous and speak up. Stick your head above the parapet - but be prepared to get shot at. If we don't speak up or out we've only ourselves to blame if things deteriorate.
I think you did the right thing the first time - good on you!!0 -
He should have gone over to the shop worker and said "Excuse me but I just saw you put that £10 in your pocket. Do you intend to hand it in or are you nicking it"?
Obviously they will not admit that they are going to keep it so I dont really see the point in complaining.
I would not have handed it in unless I saw the customer come back and ask for it. In my opinion the shop worker is taking the mick!!!!0 -
Dont agree at all emgormley it is dishonest and I would certainly complain! And as for "serve him right for handing it in". I dont think that sort of attitude is honest at all.0

It's theft, simple as.0

Yes, he should go back. But he should have gotten a receipt for it first time round, which would have kept everyone honest. If he'd done that he might have a chance of getting the money himself, if nobody claimed it.0

Yes! He should say something, if not to the assistant to give them a chance to make right.
If he gave the assistant the option to hand to the customer service (checked by Ricki) then at least Ricki hasn't caused the assistant to lose his job. WHO knows what hardship he is encountering and how much of a decent person he is.......benefit of doubt!Chrissie

After reading all of the answers on this tread, I thought I would tell my own story.
Eight months ago I was in my local Morrisons store. Someone had dropped a £10 note on the floor, so I handed it in to customer services. After making a note of the reference number provided, I was told that if the cash had not been claimed within six months then I could ask for it back. I decided to check this two months ago, and low and behold the £10 became mine.
So in some situations it is worth handing the money in. If I had seen a member of staff pocket the money, I would have reported it to customer services.A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.:D0
