Should Ricky kick off about pocketed cash?

Yes, I'd approach the assistant immediately, emphatically and unequivocally. What's the dilemma here? You've been honest, you should expect the assistant to be just as honest.
However, I'd not have allowed the situation to arise in the first place. I would have insisted on signing the lost property book, so that if the person didn't return to collect the cash I'd be contacted either to keep it or put it in the charity box - I'm certain I'd do the latter.0 -
Ricky should approach the customer services team to explain what he saw, the staff member should be aware of the store policies. If they have chosen to ignore them for their own personal gain they should be prepared for the consequences of their actions.
I recently followed someone to a self-service checkout and in their rush to get away they left £80 cashback in the till. To be honest I'm quite strapped right now and could do with the money, but the thought of keeping quiet only popped into my head for a split second. I then left the till and ran after the rightful owner to return their money. The main thought in my head wasn't 'I could really use £80' instead I thought 'how bad would I feel to lose £80'.
If the previous user hadn't been around what would I do? go to customer services and hand it in. Of course I'd take a copy of the report, that way if no-one claimed the money, I would see it as a reward for my honesty. To simply take the money would make it feel illgotten and I'd regret my actions.
It's a Karma thing, I have done many a good deed and am sure I will be rewarded.:A
Just off out to by a lotto ticket!:j0 -
Yes he should tell someone without actually accusing the person of stealing the money. It's quite true that the assistant might be merely waiting until they have time to deal with it properly BUT if not, it should definitely be donated to Tesco's charity of the year, rather than go to line their pocket.0

Yes i think ricky should complain about the shop assistant pocketing the 10.00 change, as the shop assistant should reported the find in a special book for that sort of thing as most high street stores do, the details of the person who found the money, the amount, where found and the date and time found. After about a month the store should get in touch with the finder and let the know wether the item has been claimed or not, and let that person have the money if not claimed or the oportunity to give it to a charity.0

Of course he should go back and complain!
He should go to the shop manager and do so, right away - and very noisily!
Staff in such places are in a position of trust and must never abuse that trust. Suppose you had left a nice ipod there? Wouldn't it be just as wrong if, after an honest customer had handed it in, a member of staff had pocketed it?
Complain long and loud, Ricky and hopefully, the embarrassment alone will be an effective deterrent not just for the culprit but to other staff who might otherwise be tempted!0 -
Ok, add-on question, how long are you all prepared to wait at the customer service desk for in order to hand in the money? Queues in our Tesco are huge!0

Just a thought - perhaps the till assistant was merely pocketing the tenner to keep it safe until he could report it? But I am a trusting soul!0

pocket the money or put it into the charity if it bothers you.0

I’m so depressed by the number of self-centred, grasping or mean-minded people who’ve contributed to this topic who think it’s fine for Ricky to keep the fiver in the first place. Mrs Thatcher would be so proud.
For many people, the loss of £5 is neither here nor there, and their carelessness would be water off a duck’s back. But for others, the loss of that sum could be devastating – it might pay for an elderly person to keep warm or for a mother to have enough food to feed her family. I’m glad that the moral dilemma wasn’t even posed in terms of whether Ricky should just keep the money – I’d hope that was a given. But some of the responses leads me think that there’s little compassion for the plight of the poor.0 -
I would go straight to customer services and grass the thieving !!!!!! up!!! I could have brought a few beers with the money had I not been so stupid!!0
