Should Ricky kick off about pocketed cash?

YES - I work for Tesco and if we get caught with any cash in our pockets we may get fired if it was found to be something like that.
It should never be put in someone's pocket for any reason.
Keep the CA safe as well as your good feeling of hading it in.:T0 -
complain, it is theft, unless they were planning on logging it later in the found property book of course.0

I would go to customer services and tell them what I saw and ask if it was handed in later by the employee and ask to see the record of this. If there was no such record I would ask to speak to the Manager and give as many details as I could. if the employee had indeed pocketed it is theft and therefore gross misconduct.
Most large supermarkets will have a policy that no staff should carry money on the shop floor and even anything purchased before or after a shift should have a signed receipt.0 -
To be fair all the store assistant has done is put it in his/her pocket.
They could be waiting until they aren't having to contend with all the muppets that can't scan first then bag.
I think to call that person a theif is a little on the harsh side.0 -

I would do nothing, the employee could have been exercising either of the last two options, in any case it would be impossible to trace the original owner so it is a case of "finders keepers".0

You don't know what the intentions of the store worker are at the point. Ok it doesn't look well but they might be intending to hand it in and have gone on autopilot and put it in their pocket in the meantime.
I wouldn't exactly 'complain' but I would inform a senior member of staff who may then decide to wait and see what happens.
If that person is dishonest, they need weeding out.
PS Well done to the assistant who chased after me in M&S Leeds yesterday after I left a note in the self check out!
Well said....my sentiments exactly. I would certainly notify someone at customer services just in case that shop worker did not hand it in. To take it for themselves would in my opinion be theft.0 -
I find it difficult to believe the shop assistant would steal a tenner - surely his job is worth more than that? If he is so dull that he doesn't grasp the concept then surely Sainsury's would not have employed him in the first place. A large place with cameras everywhere.
In view of the above I would prefer to believe he will hand it in later. If he doesn't then as someone else said it is only a short matter of time before he finds himself looking for work, and genuine people/shoppers can do without people like that working in such a place.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
Complain? No. He would almost certainly be told, by the employee he gave the money to, that he "was going to hand it into customer services as soon as he had a spare moment". That could be the truth, but Ricky would never know; although it probably isn't true as he should have been asked to take a few minutes to hand it in there himself; so that he would be given a receipt and the chance to claim it for himself after a suitable 'waiting period'.
Scotsbob got it right, but another alternative would be to go back and simply ask for a receipt, when he would almost certainly be directed or escorted to 'customer services'.
It's sad to see so many 'posts' are not from 'Money Savers' but rather from 'Money Grabbers'. "Keep it yourself / Steal it" is surely the answer of someone who doesn't understand the word 'Moral' - no dilemma for them then!.0 -
Of course he should go back and complain!
He should go to the shop manager and do so, right away - and very noisily!
Staff in such places are in a position of trust and must never abuse that trust. Suppose you had left a nice ipod there? Wouldn't it be just as wrong if, after an honest customer had handed it in, a member of staff had pocketed it?
Complain long and loud, Ricky and hopefully, the embarrassment alone will be an effective deterrent not just for the culprit but to other staff who might otherwise be tempted!
So unbelievably true. Once, when staying in a travelodge in Leeds while taking retakes, obviously very stressed I left my iPod in the room and checked out. 10 minutes later I realised my mistake and ran back. Strangely the cleaning staff said they'd never found an iPod. Nice honest world we live in!
So yes, complain or say you'll take it to customer services and save them the trouble. Stealing is stealing, a tenner or an iPod.0 -
Just a thought - perhaps the till assistant was merely pocketing the tenner to keep it safe until he could report it? But I am a trusting soul!
You're not allowed to keep cash in your pocket on the shop floor - for whatever reason. If someone hands something in, you alert your supervisor to check it's ok to leave it logged with customer services.0
