Orange seems to be going on a go slow here. I have been investigating, and we seem to be on 1mg for £17.99 per month, but we could upgrade to 2mg for £17.99per month for a one off fee of £20! Also, I did a speed test, and we seem to be only getting 0.5 mg

    Speed Test Results

    Downstream 549.3 Kbps ( = 0.5 Mbps )
    Upstream 231.1 Kbps ( = 0.2 Mbps )

I have done all the things they say to try and speed things up. I think a phone call is in order. I definitely don't want to pay £20 to have things changed - I don't know how we ended up on 1mg anyway, I am sure we were on 2mg. Would they have changed it when Wanadoo became Orange?

Regarding your speed, unfortunately you will rarely get the maximum speed quoted.

    from https://www.speedtester.bt.com

    For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps.
    For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps.
    For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps.
    For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps.

You speed test result comes within acceptable results for both 1Mb and 2Mb which is due to the fact that up to 50 users could be sharing your bandwidth at any time. (This level of contention is unlikely but possible)

    Thanks to everyone :D

I've just phoned Orange & got my Broadband Max package down to £17.99 + Livebox and free UK landline calls. :j Had to agree to a new 12month contract but I'm just pleased with the saving!

CS person said they couldn't let every one of their Max customers know because there are too many of them :( Don't think that's good enough but I'm not complaining about the two people I spoke to because they were lovely

Thanks again, I would never have tried unless I'd read your posts.

I just rang orange as im moving to sky. The only thing i was told about was there free BB offer with the mobile. I think they know atm until they change there pricing structer they cant compete with sky and talk talk on a cost level. Id expect to see changes to there prices very soon.

They have offered me their 27.99 package (broadband and free landline calls 24hours a day, 7 days a week) for £17.99 (the cost of my existing broadband).

I have been with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange for about four years. Do you think I should take this offer up?

I was paying £17.99 a month for Orange broadband. When I phoned to close my account so I could move to Madasafish the supervisor reduced my monthly rate to £12.99. This is for 1MB, but I can't get 8MB at my exchange yet. When it does become available I'll phone again with the same line and hopefully get it for no extra.

  • Very interesting info Chinny, thanks mate.

Always worth knowing Orange are doing similar cancellation deals like AOL et al - spread the word..

Interesting ...... when I tried a couple of months ago they refused point blank to reduce my monthly subscription. Being that it looks like another 6 months away for Sky broadbank might need to give Orange a call again and see what they will do
  • I've also had the £12.99 offer but because of problems with them billing me for the wrong amounts I am going to leave. Also they converted me onto an LLU circuit without telling me it makes changing to another company very hard so I would rather do that now - Am trying to move to Primus.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

I'm being very thick here. Whats this LLU then?

I Have been with Wannadoo since Feb '05 and recently asked them to lower my monthly costs, I got a free month after the merger whilst Orange decided on their new packages that were supposed to be competitive with other ISP's.

A month down the line, I called back to reduce my monthly £17.99 fee to a more competitive amount - I was told that I couldn't downgrade to the starter package for £14.99 - a sort of 'like-it-or-lump-it' attitude from customer services.

We all know that it's a pain to switch ISP's - downtime, changing your e-mail address, sending cancellation letters, sending back modems, etc - so I did want to stay with Orange to save this hassle (they know this too- of course!)

I did some research with Tiscali customer services and they could provide me with the exact same service for £12.99 per month, after obtaining my Migration code from orange it would take 7-10 days to transfer and would only involve about 30 minutes downtime- BRILLIANT! a saving of £60 per year and an extra £10 through Quidco for signing up to Tiscali!)

Called Orange today to arrange transfer and they offered to downgrade me to their starter package (£14.99) and price matched this to Tiscali at £12.99 - I asked for a month free and got that too!

Don't give up people! keep at them - eventually you'll get through to a customer service operator that will offer you the deal you want.
