  • I have decided that I will almost definetley buy new. I am now trying to decide wether to go for the edge or spend a little bit more and get the zetec, then I will need to get moving pretty quickly and start speaking to dealerships as I want to avoid the vat increase in jan and also read on here ford is having a price increase begining of december?

Why not take further advice from cyclonebri1, he'll get you a better, faster, more reliable, cheaper and newer one second hand?

felineprincess, can I ask what part of the country your in? Are you in the Midlands or near?

Dont forget the deals that have been done on here with regards to the Zetec. For a 1.25 Petrol 5door with metallic paint you dont want to be paying any more than £10,800.

For a 5 door edge with metallic paint I wouldnt want to be spending any more than £9k
  • For weird reasons that I haven't been able to work out for years, cars, new or secondhand seem to get cheaper the further north you travel...

In saying that, may be worth giving Dagenham Motors a call as they are owned by Ford's and you can often get a better deal from them.

    Get the Zetec.

  • Midlands comes in as the 2nd biggest discounter in new cars. I think Northwest was the cheapest but dont quote me on that.

If Feline can haggle a deal in the midlands or oop north she may get a much better deal.

And if you listen to chippy and Don, they've have in debt for the rest of your life.
The only thing I promise from my advise is that you will spend less.

It is a fact that no one does a cash deal any more, that was my point, Don summed it up when he said he didn't have cash;), now there's the rub;), more debt for a slighly newer car, isn't that one of the reasons we are in such a !!!!!! state at present??

Oh and I can solve the seemingly immpossible traffic congestion issues we have at absolutely no cost, you seem to be a mate of Gordon Brown chippy, tell him to take all the cars off the road that aren't "actually" paid for:rotfl:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Some people prefer to have the cash sitting in the bank account though cyclone. I have £1100 outstanding on my current car, and I also have way over that sitting in a saving account. I could if I wanted to pay it off, but I am comfortable paying my monthly payment, and not struggling at all, while my savings are there for an emergency and gaining interest.

Same as my new one. I chose to put down £2000 cash down plus my £5500 car instead of more cash and less monthly payments, which I could easily do.

My payments over 3 years will be £157 a month. Over 2 years they would have been £227 a month - £13 over what I am paying now. Its hardly going to break my bank, and I am hardly in severe debt because of it. Infact, believe it or not but having a car on finance has actually helped me big time, because before last year I had no credit history. Now I have a fantastic credit history because of taking such a big sum out and paying it all back on time!

I know you are just winding us up now and I shouldn't bite but...

When did I say I didn't have the cash? Have more than enough to pay cash thank you. I said I never intended to pay cash and never would.

You really are scraping at the barrel.
  • Just popped up to my dealer who I done the deal with. Needed to ask him a few questions which a few of you suggested with regards to delivery...

The car is in the factory atm, and when its been built it will come over via boat on a transporter, delivered straight to the door of my dealer.

It will then go through a pre delivery inspection by their technicians and be test driven to the local BP garage for fuel. The car will come with between 5 - 15 miles on the clock.

My last brand new on came with 5.
