    Thanks everyone for your replies!

This is exactly what I'm finding, it seems I would need to spend about 8 thousand on what is now an old model car which would have cost about 11 thousand when new. I know the old models are still popular at the moment but in about 4 years time when I want a new car I'd imagine they will be much less desirable as they will be lots of 4-5 yr old new shapes about. It just feels to me that the very few diesel fiestas about with low milage are expensive compared to the new ones.

I have heard that now is a bad time to buy a used car as due to credit crunch more people are wanting to buy used so the garages are selling them for more to compensate for less people buying new - I don't know if this is true just something someone told me.

I am seriously considering buying new or pre-reg, I'm just reluctant to part with more money ;)

As Chippy said above. The 08 plate Climate you mentioned for £8k. I bought a brand new 08 plate around April last year, Zetec Blue (better than the climate) and it cost me less than that.

I reckon with a bit of work, a brand new basic new shape Fiesta could be had for about £8.5k. This is based on my and Matts deals over the last week or so.

Had dificulty finding a pre-reg or even second hand car cheaper than I got my new Fiesta Zetec too.

No doubt your last Fiesta was too.

    Our Zetec came with

    - Perimeter Alarm with 2nd Electronic Key
    - Auto Windscreen wipers when it rains
    - Automatic headlights
    - Air Con
    - Privacy Glass
    - Electrical Fold door mirrors
    - 16" Alloys
    - Metallic Paint
    - Floor Mats

    New and change from 8K.

Mates had all the above plus Sony Radio/CD and blue tooth.

    Matt.

With reference to Goldspanners post. Check with your dealer how your car will be delivered. My mates Ford was going to be driven up from Hampshire on trade plates. He told them where to go and it's was delivered by transporter (either that or with the speedo disconnected).

with the £4k bri saved im sure he was happy to miss out on any apparent freebies?

a pre registered car with under 200 miles equals a brand new car. matt i hope you are not too disappointed when your new fiesta comes with anything up to 350 miles on the clock and is still sold to you as brand new.
most will come with less but some will have covered a fair few miles on trade plates first, 350 miles, i know how many times i can fart covering that distance.

the only difference is a paperwork difference, the pre reistered car has been purchased from the manufacturer by the dealer to hit a sales target and claim a bonus from the manufacturer its been sat doing nothing in a compound next to all the other new cars.

But, if you can get the brand new (not pre-reg) just built or being built car, for the same money. Or cheaper. Surely the non pre-reg wins?

I am not saying this is the case for all manufacturers/models, but certainly seems the case with the Fiesta right now.

The car I am just about to trade in has that, minus the alarm. But, I got the bluetooth and sony CD. And, like you, paid less than 8k. Was well chuffed with that deal.

My mate just bought a brand new octavia scout cheaper than a second hand one.

Apparently for whatever reason there is a shortage of second hand motors.

Very true. I know 3 car dealers and they are really struggling to find decent used cars to put on their lots. Despite venturing further a field for auctions in other cities.

Even the 2nd hand car lot near me has put a massive sign up saying they buy cars for cash.

I like new cars. Plus on the PCPs and with good deals, I know how much I am paying each month all the time, with no surprises. With the added benefit of a new motor every 18 months or so. Do it with the wifes car too.

I am far too sensible these days though. The Impreza days are a few years behine me now.

Not paid anywhere near enough :)
