I got the statements back for the last 6 years from NatWest, and then received a letter from my bank saying they'd been trying to get hold of me.

So went in today and said I'd like to see the manager now as I wasn't prepared to use his premium rate number to ring him on ;) They wanted to discuss my overdraft, so got chatting to the bank manager and found out we graduated in the same year, and then we started dissing the Student Loans etc etc.

Anyway, started talking about the charges on my O/D and how I've been trying to stop them, and that I'm looking to reclaim them................to which he said I had no chance! I said well we'll see, and he was adamant that NatWest won't refund them.

BUT he said he'd refund one for me, to which I replied "I think you should seeing as you're my namesake!" Explained I'd been born the same name as his, he asked even spelt the same way, I said yes, and he said well in that case I'll refund you 2 charges instead!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Nice bloke, nice that me being cheeky got another charge refunded..................but I still want to try and claim back the £500!! ;)

Is it easy to get hold of old statements I phoned barclays who said they don't keep them over 3 years. But I think the guy was just trying to fob me off

    Thanks for this site Martin.

I followed your link a few weeks ago to the Bank Action Group site, they have all the documents and help you need to sue the banks for bank charges returned, although none seem to get as far as court.

I got £620 back last week, I wrote 2 letters and sent a court application and that was it.

(Does that count as money saving!)

Well done mate! Nice one. I've just opened a new bank account with A & L (to have a back up for when First Direct wish to close my account). Then I will be pursuing said bank charges for the past 8yrs with FD.

Does anybody now if the bank will give you copies of said statements for the past 8yrs???

I've got over £250 back from Abbey.
Halifax have refunded £69 from one of my accounts and I have just applied to court to get the £900 for the other account with them.

Its easy to do once you get the hang of it. You have to be brave though, they will fight you, tell you that you wont win, try to bribe you with low offers etc.

If anyone needs help, just PM me.

I got my (fairly meagre) £60 worth of charges back from Nationwide. I didn't even need to do a letter. Just went into the bank and asked for it back as I thought they could only charge for their actual costs and I thought £60 was unreasonable. I had to chase it up with their customer services department, who said it had been input wrong and automatically declined, but they put it through again and got it back a week later. :)

I just got £1044 refunded by First Direct with no problems or delays. I sent the standard letter from the Consumer Action Group Site along with a spreadsheet showing all the charges over the last six years (I had kept all the statements). Within seven days they replied saying the didn't accept any fault on their part but that they would pay in full to avoid legal costs. I had to sign and return an acceptance slip and within 5 days £1044 was credited to the account.

Needless to say I was delighted and very grateful to Dave Smith and Co.

I will keep the account for now but if they don't change their policy on penalties I will probably switch.

Yes I finally got my bank charges from Halifax, and this how it all happen
(Please do not e-mail >>>the info below will give most Q & A)
All Letters sent are on this site under Unfair bank Charges (follow steps)

16 May 06 Sent 1st letter asking for all bank charges (failed DD)
(halifax will charges £5.00 for all statements since the account opened)

30 May 06 Got Letter from Halifax saying I ageed to T & C so no fefund

June 06 I wrote 2nd letter saying I will take this matter in small claims court
    (CC Financial Ombusdman)

June 06 Got a reply saying will pay me about 20% of my claim

June 06 Paid Moneyclaim £120 to start court case against Halifax (Charges + court fees)

July 06 Halifax paid me my full claim + £120

So if you are with Halifax, you should get your money back once you get small claim court involved>>>best £120 I have ever spent and got that back too.

But I must say a MASSIVE THANK YOU TO MARTIN>>>>you are a godsend

    Good Luck to you all
