We have had some charges refunded,as a 'gesture of goodwill,' when we have challenged the Halifax, but I know there are some that they haven't refunded in the past, despite challenging them.
Would we be able to get those back?
One thing. We have just re-mortgaged with the Halifax in the last couple of weeks, and the wife is now worried they will start acting funny against us,if we pursue compensation.

Yes as long as they were made in the last 6 years.Quinny wrote:One thing. We have just re-mortgaged with the Halifax in the last couple of weeks, and the wife is now worried they will start acting funny against us,if we pursue compensation.
Banks sometimes threaten to close your bank accounts but I doubt they would do anything to affect your mortgage. If they do, they are in the wrong and you can make a formal complaint against them. I claimed £900 from halifax and they didnt threaten to do anything so it may depend on the amount you are claiming back.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
Makes me wonder whether teaching my children to be organised and disciplined in relation to their financial affairs so they didn't incur bank interest or charges, was a complete waste of time.0

No it wasn't a waste of time. It makes me cross that people are suggesting that banks have stolen money from them when in actuality it is the fault of their own lack of discipline in spending money that isn't theirs to spend. Your children will have a financial grounding that will last them a lifetime. Some of the people crowing about beating the banks will be in exactly the same financial mess in a few more months time.0 -

I've seen several of these threads about people claiming back their charges and the inevitable argument that ensues.
I haven't read this thread apart from the last few posts but as far as I understand it....no-one is disputing the fact that they should be charged for going o/d, failed DDR's etc - they are disputing the AMOUNT of the charge ie. the banks should not be profiting from these charges but covering the cost of the "offence" (for want of a better word). They are therefore only claiming back the unfair portion of the charges - not the whole charge?

how long does this all take i entered a claim on the 1st of june and i am still waiting for my court date.
lloyds had removed my overdraft limit of £1100 when i sent them a letter saying i was claiming my charges back.
they have not charged me for being overdrawn since then though nore have they charged me interest for being overdrawn. But yesterday i had a call from lloyds saying did i know i was overdrawn i explained that they removed my o/d limit because i was claiming back my charges, the guy one the phone was very nice he just said that is a stupid reason to remove the overdraft and is putting it back on the account. but he also said there is £18 of interest to be added on the 1st of sep 06. so now i am confused i am getting this feeling that IF i get a court date lloyds are going all they way with me as this is taking forever and alot of people have had there moneyback already:beer: LOVE LIFE PROCEED & PROGRESS0 -

I haven't seen a single post that suggests anything other than claiming back the whole amount.0 -
Hi guys, this has turned into a discussion as how to claim back any unfair bank charges and has wandered off from the original 'How much have you saved'? thread. As there is a thread dedicated to the subject here, and you will probably get more answers to your questions over there, i am locking this thread. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
