Yes, thats right, you can only claim back charges relating to the last 6 years (unfortunatey) but at least we are able to claim something back.

I'm currently reclaiming from Cahoot and am awaiting the reply from my LBA I sent. Then I'll start with the Credit Cards such as Monument (was Providian) and then Capital One. I've worked out that between the 3 companies, I am owed nearly £2000.

I am still overdrawn with Cahoot and they are still adding the charges, but I beleive that once the 'hopefully' agree that they are unlawful, then they will also cancel the latest charges.

Don't be scared and do claim back YOUR money. Whether it be £20 or £2000 it is YOURS and so get it back.

There is some good information in this thread, But do go to the http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/ website as there is loads of information to read, you can use the templates provided so you only have to edit your name, address, account number etc, and it walks you through the case. It has forums for most banks and so something you may want to know may already be covered and the process for you is easier.

But above all DONT GIVE UP. It's your money, not theirs!!!!!!!!!

I have just found this thread and read it with interest.
I'm new to the forum, so forgive me if my question has been asked already.

Can I reclaim charges for missed or late payments to credit cards? We sometimes genuinely forget, not a lot, but maybe 6 or so times over the years.

We are usually pretty good, but you know how it is on occasions...

Thanks in anticipation of any replies.

Yes you can claim these back. How easy it is will depend on who your card is with.

same with banks - some are easier than others. Halifax put up more of a fight than Abbey but I got everything back in the end.

There is a thread about claiming back unfair bank charges here. Calmgirl it may be better to ask your question on that thread as you may get more of a response than on here.

  • hi, I've been reading with much interest about reclaiming bank charges, I am director of a small limited company which has incurred over £3000 bank charges in the past four years. Do the same 'rules' apply to companies concerning chasing the banks for these charges? Thanks in advance!

so barclaycard who have been fobbing me off since December when the balance was 4,856 and its now over 5,000 ( just this month alone was £120 in fees etc) , I've been on reduced payments - paying £10 a month , would I be able to claim interest charges back?

has anyone claimed charges back from Lloyds TSB ? , I've got a 2 thou overdraft I want to claim back on but very nervous of doing so ....also anyone claimed form Alliance & Leicester back account?

    thanks Jo

Ooohhh that'll be a good claim! You can claim your fees back, you can also claim back the interest they have charged you on those charges - but that does get complicated!

Lloyds TSB do pay but they are one of the harder ones to get money from - they really do try to scare you off but if you see if though, you will get your money JUST before the court date - well at least everyone I know has.

Yes, as far as I am aware you can claim these back too. Slightly different wording is needed in the letters but it can be done.

see the site I mention a few posts above for more info on this.
