Anyone had a call from Accident Investigation Bureau?

Options
Just had a call from a man claiming to be from the Accident Investigation Bureau. When I told him no-one in my household has had an accident recently and I was not interested in any claims HE told ME to get lost and hung up before I had a chance to respond!! Anyone else had calls from this company? I googled them and found another forum (mumsnet) where other people seem to have had similar problems.

There is no business by that name authorised by the MOJ to carry out accident management business. And, in any event, if they were authorised, they should not be cold calling.

Just had a call from them, took some understanding when they spoke. Perhaps its an Indian call centre. Anyway told them to get stuffed and put phone down.
  • I Just had a call from these people. I spoke to a guy with an Indian accent. When I asked how he got the number he told me from a Government Database. I was immediately suspicious as no-one in my house has had an accident. He persisted and said that someone must have otherwise he wouldnt be calling, then asked where we worked and had we filled in an accident book somewhere, i said no and then hung up.
I just reported them/ made a complaint on the Telephone Pref. service website:

I had a similar call a few months ago. It just had scam written all over it - either fishing to get bank details or getting you to ring a premium phone line. At the very least it's ambulance chasing.
  • i had one of these calls yesterday, from a guy with a name and an accent i found very hard to understand , saying " i think" he was ringing about an accident we had been involved in.
seeing as there hadnt been an accident i told him to go away, i wasnt interested in anything he had to say.
very frightening to think someone could be fooled by these calls.

Anyone who receives a call from these people should make it their civic duty to keep them on the phone as long as possible. Have fun and waste their time. Make up a false address. Make up false accident details. Ask the caller for sex. Anything!
    The man without a signature.
  • I have just received the same call, private number. Asked if I had had an accident etc etc, I said who are you and all he kept saying was Accident and Information Bureau, he kept asking if I had been to hospital, so I kept asking for his phone number, this went on for sometime his english was terrible, and then he started getting ratty and said HAVE YOU HAD AN ACCIDENT OR WHAT MADAM, I told him to **** off and slammed the phone now. How do they get our phone numbers? I am ex directory.

Ex-directory means nothing, they'll have an auto-dialler that calls a wide number range, if yours is in this, you will get a call.

I tell them I tripped over one of the "no win, no fee" stands in the shopping centre, they soon clear off then
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
