I just might cancel it and go with another insurer I know I will have the same exclusions but hopefully not the same hassle ....anyone know of any good insurance companys that actually CARE for pets. No one actually has a pet thinking they will be ill, Insurance is supposed to a safety net incase that happens or so you would think!!!!
Im thinking of writing to watchdog etc.....An invitation to claimsmanager ...Will you come on to explain to all of us who have been scammed ,why your company has such a proven bad reputation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Google 'NFU Mutual Pet Insurance', failing that the big supermarkets are very reasonable but bear in mind that E&L have now screwed up your insurance with other companies by excluding certain conditions, so you will probably find you'll not be covered for those things elsewhere, but even if you are not you have a guarantee that you will be treated 100% better by other companies. To E&L you are just an income. They don't give a stuff about your pets.
ETA: Here's an interesting story. A woman had her horse insured with E&L and one day as she was out riding it, a car slowed right down to a crawl to go round the horse properly and gave plenty of room. The horse got 'spooked' and accidently sat on the car bonnet denting it.
The horse was uninjured because the car was going so slow & they thought it would be easy for the car driver to have her car repaired because the horse was insured so they could just claim damage costs from E&L, but get this - E&L sued the car driver!
They found an acient bit of countryside legislation that nobody has ever heard of, which states if a horse is frightened by something as you are passing it you are supposed to turn the ignition off immediately. Now who on earth would think 'Oh by jove, i really must turn the engine off at once' when you have a sodding great horse sat on your car bonnet?
The car driver & horse rider lived in the same village and knew each other so you can imagine the problems that caused both parties.
That's the sort of people you are dealing with here, the sort who are not unaccustomed to playing dirty if it saves them some money.0 -
I hate to play devils advocate, but that story does not make sense, if the horse was uninjured then E&L would not have had to pay any vet bills and I assume no claim for the rider. How exactly could they have sued the car driver when they had no losses to sue for.
It sounds to me more likely that they defended the claim against the rider from the car driver by using the piece of law you refer to which you would probably find most horse insurers would do0 -
It wasn't my horse so i can't answer any questions about it. What i can tell you is that it is posted on this forum somewhere years back, it was the Google result of that story that first brought me to this forum 3 years ago when i bought my dog and was looking for insurance.
The owner of the horse in question posted it on here. You'll have to search the archives if you want to read the whole thread I have only provided the outline of what happened & who was found liable.0 -

E and L have the WORSE reputation of any pet insurers and should be banned. We had a friend who wasnt paid out for the death of his Mastiff for 6 months.
If I were you, contact your local Citizens advice bureau and they will knock up a letter for you.

I have a simple claim for a course of antibiotics for my dog, which has been going through E&L claims for nearly six months. I used to be with M&S and they paid out for a similar course of treatment within 10 days! Steer clear these are according to my Vet the 'Cowboys' of the Vet Insurance Industry!0

You shouldn't have emailed. Emails can be deleted. You need to write a letter to them. The FSA are not going to accept emails as evidence of a complaint. You need to do it in writing, not by email. Where the boosters were administered is not relevant to your claim. Ask them to show you where in thier policy it says anything to that effect.
I sent an email cos I thought they were quicker, will go out tonight in the snail mail giving them 14 days notice.

Had an email from Mr Claims Manager on here who has looked into my claim, sends his condolences on the loss of my pet and apologising for it taking so long, and he is happy to send me a cheque for the full amount on my policy.....
Sent it first class last night so I should have it in next couple of days.....
What a relief, i'm so pleased, still not happy that it took four months, but after reading some of the stories on here, I didn't expect to get anything!!!

Thats excellent news at least you are getting somewhere.
I have had a PM from the claims manager and I have emailed back. I was dissapointed to get what looks like a standard letter back, not really the personal approach I was expecting but I have yet to see what happens.
Congratulations, It is just a shame it takes something like this for the claim to be properley looked into.
Im hoping my claim gets the personal touch the Claims Manager promises in his How Can I help ? email.
I will keep the site posted as to my E and L Journer.0
