You shouldn't have emailed. Emails can be deleted. You need to write a letter to them. The FSA are not going to accept emails as evidence of a complaint. You need to do it in writing, not by email. Where the boosters were administered is not relevant to your claim. Ask them to show you where in thier policy it says anything to that effect.0

Hi Everyone
I too have had problems with E and L insurance and making a claim and wish I had read / found the reviews before taking out my policy.
E and L wasnt the cheapest insurance for my pet but seemed to offer a decent life time cover ....how wrong I have been.
E and L are refusing to pay out for my Pets Demodex Mange treatment because I didnt disclose a bee sting that he had a few weeks before taking out the policy!!! What has a bee sting got to do with Demodex Mange. Im no Vet but I dont really think it has anything to do with it!!!
I have written to them for for some clarification but I wont be holding my breath. I think it is an outrage that they can refuse to pay but I too will be taking this as far as I can as its a matter of principle. The vets bills have been paid so I have nothing to lose.
I should have known they were a tin pot company when my Vets gulped when I told her who I was insured with. Its traumatic enough having a poorly pet never mind having to deal with this rubbish.0 -
This is unfortunately what they are like. A Bee sting has no connection whatsoever with Demodex Mange, but E&L will try to find any possible link they can in order to wriggle out of paying.
And to think we had one of thier slimey reps posting on this thread trying to convince us they never attempt to avoid paying. I'd like to see what medical or scientific link they can find between Mange & a Bee sting.
They really are a complete and utter embarrassment to the Insurance Industry and don't deserve any custom for the way they treat thier policy holders. Most companies in the business of Pet Insurance devote thier time to looking into how they can help policy holders, E&L devote thier time into how they can help themselves.
Totally disgraceful,vile company. :mad:0 -
Thanks for your comments wrangler5.
I read that comment from the claimsmanager and it seemed a bit false and all too nice. It doesnt look like he kept his promise to SJP either which I suppose is typical of them.
Oh well I will keep fighting for my cause and hopefully others will read comments on here and steer well clear of E and L.
I will post the connection they make from the bee sting to the demodex when I have received their reply.
Looking forward to that!0 -
I found his response a little too false as well. I also found it rather ironic that he didn't even post on this thread to help the OP, he only posted here because another person (Mr Frosty) had shamed them into responding by giving his experiences of thier questionable behaviour.
I don't know about anyone else but i actually found it rather rude and brazen that he only came on to this thread for his own motives because someone else had slated E&L & not because he wanted to help the OP.
Just about says all you need to know about thier customer relations when they so blatantly pick and choose who to help.
Nice.. :rolleyes:0 -
Morning again
Today I got a letter from that Phil Bove ( said claimsmanager who posted on this site!!) adding exclusions to my policy for my dogs ears and skin!! Thats what I have put a claim in for. Can they actually do this ? If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Now if anything unrelated to his demodex happens to his skin or ears we wont be able to claim and the treatment is not cheap. Just makes me wonder why bother with insurance ????
I just might cancel it and go with another insurer I know I will have the same exclusions but hopefully not the same hassle ....anyone know of any good insurance companys that actually CARE for pets. No one actually has a pet thinking they will be ill, Insurance is supposed to a safety net incase that happens or so you would think!!!!
Im thinking of writing to watchdog etc.....An invitation to claimsmanager ...Will you come on to explain to all of us who have been scammed ,why your company has such a proven bad reputation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Found thisd thread and thought that I would share my experience of E&L just in the hope that it helps people decide to go elsewhere.
I have 2 cats both RSPCA and they were insured with Tesco from when I got them 5 years ago. I looked to switch as tesco were getting quite dear but as they are both quite old, my choices seemed limited. Then I found E&L. Oh dear!
Well I went with them as they saved me about £10 a month and all was well for 2 months. Then one of my cats developed a lump. She had one removed previously with Tesco no problem but this one seemed quite serious and the vert had to operate urgently and she was under General Anaesthetic for over 3 hours which cost a fortune.
The vet asked me to pay up front whereas with Tesco, they have put the claim in and I hadn't paid anything. So I duly paid the bill for £500 there and then and then put in my claim for E&L.
This was in December 2008 but my cat didn't do well after the operation and so had to be put to sleep in January. By APRIL I still had not received a penny from E&L so put in a formal complaint in writing. I then got a phonecall from a claims manager who said that the claim had been agreed but they were just waiting to get a cheque out. That took 2 further weeks and when it came, it was for less than £200!
When I queried the deductions, I had an excess of £150 and then had to pay 35% of the remainder. They also made a deduction of £10.25 because she had to stay at the vets overnight for observation following the operation and this apparently meant that I didnt have to pay the £10.25!!!
This company are quick to take your money and loathed to pay out even following the death of a much loved pet.
Following this debacle, I cancelled my other cats insurance policy there and then but they still charged me for the whole month!
I am now back in Tesco. If only I had known what a mess this would have been, and what stress and upset it would cause on top of losing my beautiful cat, I would never had gone there.
Steer clear of E&L!I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

They are a law unto themselves and do anything they can in order to avoid paying out. Skin conditions can cost a lot of money over many years so once 'Excuses & Lies' get the slightest whiff of a skin condition they instantly put an exclusion on it, as they do with any other condition that could potentially cost them money. They wont even cover you for skin conditions in certain breeds like Shar Pei that are more prone to skin problems.
Thier logic is that if an insect stings the skin then they exclude anything to do with skin & if a Mite infects the ears they will exclude anything to do with ears. What do you think they will do if your dog breaks a leg? Exclude the other 3 legs! Basically every time you claim on something which they think could cost them a lot of money in the future, they put an exclusion on it. It's like a game of Chess, every time you advance they block you.
Seriously you need to get away from these people now & tell everyone you know to never go near them. If enough people spread the word more people will be saved from this kind of distress when thier pets become ill.
They will use the wording of thier policy to thier own interpretation. It is worded in such a way that the odds are always going to be in thier favour.0
