I went into Aldi today and they no longer had the soya milk onsale. I asked a staff member about it and they said they have had to take it offsale due to a product recall. hopefully this is positive news.

That is good news. I popped in to my local Aldi, just to check, and yes it's gone. I asked a member of staff whether there had been any news about bringing back the old one soon, but she didn't know anything about it.

Fired my letter off to Aldi with a forlorn hope that they put it back on the shelves with the original forulation.

In the meantime tried Tesco's Soya Life, YUK! Why do they have to add sugar for god sake and not classify it as sweetened.

Now using Morrisons unsweetened which is very like Aldi 's Soya Delight and the formulation is almost the same.

More importantly, my tea is drinkable again!:D

I use Morrisons unsweetened too, it went up the other week from 88p to 95p though, quite a jump in one go!

Sainsburys unsweetened is also ok, that has a shorter shelf life though (but I think a longer life once open?).

The Morrisons Unsweetened Soya (long life/blue carton) we bought today, only cost us 64p per litre.

Could there be another own brand unsweetened soya milk they keep in the cool cabinet with a short shelf life that costs more?

    Only 64p?!

Hmm interesting, it's the lighter blue carton, has about 1 month date till opened then 3 days after opening (think the sweetened is a darker blue). I wonder if cost is different in different areas? I've only seen one own brand one in the store I use.

As I said Kirri, we bought the long life version, so hence the price differential.

Personally, I can find no differnce in taste between the long life version (as long as it's chilled before use) and the version kept in the cool cabinet in the store with a one month shelf life!

Ah right, sorry, I get you now, the non chilled one. Might try that then.

Just to alert those who use the above to the fact that the ingredients have been changed-it now has less fat, less soya beans, must cost less to manufacture and tastes awful!! Needless to say the price is the same-tastes like they have taken a normal carton and diluted it by half.
I have bought this for years and bought a box of 12 last week. Opened the 1st one and thought it was "off". Compared nutritional content with previous carton and the penny dropped. Nothing on the packaging stating "New improved" or similar.
Can anyone recommend a nice soya milk please?........

I used to get Provamel years ago and it was the best, tasted really nice. Then they changed it and made it into a horrible fake coconutty vanilla downright weird concoction and called it 'Alpro'. I can't understand why manufacturers feel this need to fix, ie ruin, things that aren't broken all the time.
Anyway none of them seem that nice now but Asda's own is supposedly organic and is cheap and fine in tea and with cereals, makes a nice creamy porridge.
Hubby just told me Sainsbury's own is OK too.

    :p
  • Soya So Good is the best one I've found for adding to tea and coffee especially as it doesn't curdle like some of the other ones do. Prefer the chilled variety :)

Have never taken to Alpro as it's very chalky

    Hi all

I recieved a reply from Aldi dated the 18th December informing me that the supplier has been changed (from the one that produced the product with the watery consistency) and the (new) product has been distributed to the stores.

Yesterday (23rd) I made a special trip to my local store and guess what, no sign of the "new" product and when I questioned the manager he had no idea of what I was talking about and readily admitted he hadn't been given the reason for the product recall let alone that there had been a change in supplier (and formulation) that had led to the problems in the first place.

So if you receive a letter from Aldi advising that a product has been distributed to their stores, I'd take it with a big pinch of salt and try and find out via someone who is making a trip to an Aldi store and not do as I did and make a special 40 mile round trip based on the content of a letter.

    Merry Christmas
