  • I complained to Tesco when they changed their value soya milk so that now it's no longer organic and has loads of additives.

    I got an initial reply:

I am very concerned to learn that the Value Soya Milk you purchased previously has been changed, and as you have pointed out not for the better.

I understand fully how inconvenient this is especially when you have used a product for a long time and like it.

In order for me to investigate this further, please could you e-mail me the bar-code number from one of the original cartons if you still have it.

I will be able to assist you further with this information and thank you for bringing this to my attention.

and then when I had supplied the extra information:

My sincere apologies for the delay in answering this further enquiry. My
colleague had not posted back the reply and I had forgotten to chase this up.

The organic beans were discontinued because they had a very bitter backnote taste. It was decided that the ordinary soya beans gave a far better improvement to the product.

I hope this explains, and please accept my apologies again for the delay.

I registered my lack of satisfaction with this reply, but as an individual what can you do apart from choose to shop elsewhere?

To be fair to Aldi (and Tesco), you can't expect them to make major changes based on one person's opinion. As cnd54321 points out, it has to be about as many people as possible registering their views and then maybe they'll take notice.

  • Aldi replied to me too, only they seemed a bit more helpful in my response. They said that only by customers contacting them, that remedial action could be taken. They acknowledged that they have had some complaints and stated that their buyers were looking for an alternative supplier. No reference to what they require from the new supplier, though.

Maybe they will change it back to the old recipe - who knows?. Aldi's address is: Holly Lane, Atherstone, Warwickshire, CV9 2SQ.

The provamel I ordered hasn't turned up, and hasn't even been despatched yet, so I cancelled the order. Meantime, Waitrose unsweetened is pretty good, quite close to what Aldi's used to be like in my opinion, it is 95p litre which I think is about mid-price. I hope that's helpful to someone.

If anyone who used to like the Aldi's one finds another similar one, please would you put a post on here.

    Thanks, Polargal.
  • If anyone isnt happy with writing to Aldi, go into your local store and complain to the manager. they usually fill out customer complaint forms which should go further than store level.
  • A positive Aldi Reply: The old supplier could not produce the soya milk and they have sourced the soya milk from an alternative supplier to ensure continuity of supply.

BUT - the current soya milk is a temporary measure until the original recipe and quality can be achieved by a new supplier. They anticipate the original recipie will be back in stored in 3 months time.

Sounds positive, I'll give them until next Feb. Although I feel people should still complain to keep Aldi's skates on! Until then I'm buying Tesco's own brand- which is okay but not brilliant.
  • Let's hope that Aldi are true to their word. We will see in February. It appears that they are taking the matter more seriously as the complaints about soya delight roll in.
  • I agree with everyone, and I'm pleased that lots of people are complaining. My mother-in-law waited 20 minutes on hold before she received a customer service rep from ALDI to complain about the milk. The person on the other end of the phone admitted she had heard the same complaint many times over. My husband wrote a letter of complaint, considering we went to ALDI uniquely for the soya delight, and wound up doing our weekly shop there as well. Now that the soya milk is horrible, we shop at Tesco. I do hope they sort it out and get the old stuff back!
  • I think it must just be me, but ALPRO soya milk tastes vanilla-like. (Like I said, as so many other people like it then I realise I am the odd one here :)

Anyone else find that TESCOS own make (blue carton) goes off really quickly.

And yes, coffee is a problem because of the acidity. Splits it. I wish someone would combat that

No! You're not alone! I think its got a vanilla-ish taste to it too, I don't like it. I actually prefer Tesco or Asda's "normal" brand.

And no, never had a problem with the Tesco "blue" one going off quickly but we use it up quite quickly (couple of days at most) so perhaps we're not comparing like for like.

I get round the coffee problem by adding it before the water and then stirring like mad. It usually works but it does curdle the odd time. Best to let the water go off boil a bit first.
  • I went into Aldi today and they no longer had the soya milk onsale. I asked a staff member about it and they said they have had to take it offsale due to a product recall. hopefully this is positive news.
  • Another vote for Alpro Soya, but the fresh one in the fridges.
