Given the point made by trading standards above that the contract is not made 'til the goods have been despatched (index t&c's).....i would simply put forward the point that they have not followed their own t&c's anyway with regards to the price mistake....why should it be that they can break their t&c's to work in their favour?? :-/

apologies if I've read this wrong - I haven't actually ordered - but have been following the thread for the last couple of days

just boycott index in future..eventually theyll get the message or go bust.....

obviously they dont give a damn about customer loyalty/service

It's the 1st time I've used them royalsteve, plus I thought it was a "sale", but it'll obviously be the last.

That's not sour grapes btw, but it's been a good learning curve. For me and a few others I reckon.

Be interesting to see the outcome too.

Well the guy in the "White Van" has returned to pick up the "printer". Wander how long before a refund... :-/

Quite a few people have reported this problem to Watchdog, ahs anyone had a researcher call them back yet.

It would be a very sweet moment to see this on next Tuesday's show. :-)

I think the moral of the story is... don't shop at Index anymore.

Theory goes that if you get good customer service, you will tell 4 people, on the other hand, if you get bad customer service, you will tell 10 people. Well, this post is nearing 20,000 hits - all reading the BS that Index have been spurting out.... People, stand up for your rights!

I finish with a Michael Moore-Oscar winning-esque final comment for those at Index who I know are following this post:

SHAME ON YOU INDEX, SHAME ON YOU! WE LIVE IN THE TIME WHERE WE HAVE A COMPANY SELLING FICTIOUS PRINTERS AND GIVING US FICTIOUS REASONS FOR THEIR SUDDEN DISAPPEARANCE! HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME!! :-) GO GET EM PEOPLE, GRRRRRRRRR!

Quote from Rpoints forum - same subject

After eventually getting through to Index customer services today, I informed them that I had reserved a 110-185 printer at my local index and wanted authority to swap the databar that I was sent for the printer.

I was told yes I would be able to, but to ring and confirm with the store that this was possible. I did this and explained everything and they informed me that yes I would be able to swap the two items.

I went along to my local store and after about half an hour of being told no, the manager came out to see me and agreed to ring customer services to double check my story.

The upshot is that I got the databar swapped for the HP7260 printer.
Good Luck everyone else. Keep trying. This was my second attempt with my local Index shop.

    Hope this helps !

  • Wow, nice move. If this story is true then surely a precedent has been set.

I'm sure an earlier poster said that online click and reserve showed no 110-185 's instore throughout the country? but then a later poster said there was stock showing on their instore stock checker. Index may have made all stores appear to be out of stock on click and reserve, yet there actually is stock if you try instore? Don't waste a journey on my account though!

Mind you if they are out of stock instore, then you could always follow the other poster 'flippa' on rpoints, who managed to choose a completely different printer instead!

I reserved one yesterday very easily with the stock checker service.

I tried again today (just out of curiosity) and you can't do it anymore, there is a message saying that you have to speak to a customer adviser to order.

I was going to keep re-reserving the thing just in case but I can't do that now.

It's amazing the lengths Index are going to to screw us over isn't it?

  • I have managed to reserve one at my local store and rang up index customer services to authorise a swap.Unfortunatly they flatly refused to give the authorisation but have promised to get a supervisor to ring back. The girl also told me to ring trading standards if i was unhappy. Also said that we should have now all recieved an email explaining it was a mistake. Yeah right.
Waiting now for bedfordshire trading standards and radio three counties consumer show to get back to me.

  • I called index this morning and explained that they had sent me the wrong items and she said they would pick them up from me on Monday and then I could call for a full refund since they have none left in stock. I asked her if I find them in stock in my local store can I exchange the incorrect items for my printers and she said yes that would be fine as I the customer should not be held accountable for the error. She gave me a customer reference number to give the store so that they could call in for authorisation and said that a note would be left under my customer number to confirm this but when they called in they were told not to do it. I then called index to find out what was going on and was simply told that I cannot exchange the goods at the store despite being told I could 2 hours earlier. She then went on to tell me they are well aware of this mistake and a mistake is all it was, to which I responded the mistake is nothing to do with me only for her to say it's nothing to do with me either. She told me they just can't supply these printers for £19.99 so if I wanted one I would need to go to the store and pay £89.99 for it. I mentioned that other people were given the same information as me regarding the return of the databars to their local store and they were exchanged so asked why this had now changed? She told me a memo has been posted to put a stop to all claims for these printers in store because they just can't supply them for £19.99.

The bottom line is as I am sure many are already aware that no one at index is prepared to take any responsibility for the mistake and through pleading ignorance and putting blocks on our every move hope it will simply go away. I for one will never shop with them again and will be sure to post negative comments on their awful service wherever I can.

I hope others have better luck with it than I had but they really are just playing games and making the rules up as they go along to stop us in any way they can. Hopefully with our combined efforts they will see the negative effect poor customer care has on their business.
