£400 overpayment for December gone in today, this will be the last one of the year. Original target at the start of the year was to be mortgage free by the end of the year, however a few months ago I changed my approach by starting to build up my savings rather than throwing everything at the mortgage. Still, Ive reduced my balance from just under £23000 to just over £8000 this year so Im very pleased with that. Will keep the regular overpayments going through 2011 and with a bit extra here and there Im sure I can clear it next year

Looking forward to joining the 2011, thank you to Cake21 for organising it this year!
  • Number 192 reporting in with December's OP of £500. Very much doubt there will be any extra this month with Christmas coming up.

Thanks for running this challenge. Although I only joined part-way through the year it has been a real motivator for me. Although I had been OPing on my mortgage since I took it our 9 years ago by keeping the payment the same each month, despite falls in the base rate (I'm on a tracker), I've found by really concentrating myself on a target I am able to do a lot better.

I haven't thrown everything I have at the mortgage, as I have been saving at the same time because I was getting a slightly better rate on my savings than the mortgage, even after tax.

Next year I intend to fill a Cash ISA, save enough for my holiday and then OP the mortgage as much as I can. I hope there will be a challenge similar to this to help keep me focussed. You guys on here are a real inspiration to me. :T
What goes around comes around.....I hope!

I have just checked my morgage account and haven't done aswell as I had hoped, although any overpayment is better than nothing. Made regular overpayment of £17.94 which has added up to £287.61. I will have to reduce by target to £476.73.

I would just like to say thank you to cake for all her hard work. I hope I overpay much more next year. Has a registered been started yet?
