Well done on over payments and new jobs. Thanks Cake for taking this on again in 2011, it must take ages, we all appreciate all your hard work.

Number 97 reporting in. I am off to the bank this morning to pay the last OP of the year (I hope). The regular payment goes out next Wednesday which will leave approx £6460 to clear the mortgage. My salary for November and our e-savings account should just cover this, and we have an appointment for 3rd December with the building society to pay it off.

Strangely, I am feeling very nervous now about doing this -I suppose because it will wipe out my savings (though we do have other less accessible pots to raid if necessary). However, if we do this we will not be paying the £500 OP in December and the regular payments of £740 will stop too. So we will be better off and it will only take about 5 months to make the savings back up if I am as strict with saving as I have been with the OPs.

Still, we have had a mortgage of one sort or another for 33 years and it will feel kind of strange without it - nice strange I hope! I thought I would be feeling excited though! Hm, we shall see.

I hope not to be joining you all in 2011 - but good luck to all of you and thanks to Cake for the hard work in keeping us all going. Will update my sig later.

OOh sounds exciting, good luck with all that, and you sure enough should make your savings up again. Better to save interest now and save again afterwards IMO.
Hope you dont have to join us still slogging it out next year :D

  • Had a very good year and have managed to hit & exceed our target a few times.

Many thanks to everyone on this forum keeping us motivated with their personal stories and journey's.

Just managed to overpay another £5k in November but still a hell of a long way to go, but this site helps keep us focused:j.

Need to think about what our target should be for next year.
