Hello everyone
(((hugs))) to moggins - and everyone else who needs them.
Busy day today, DS has had his piano lesson today instead of Thursday, when we are off on holiday. Also plenty of things to do (eg pay credit card etc) & buy - last minute odds & ends.
Not helped by the fact that first thing this morning the kitchen was inhabited by a number of uninvited ants (not, of course, that there is an option for invited ants.....)
So I had to pull the freezer out, zap ants, clean up a warren full of dust bunnies (I only cleaned under there a couple of weeks ago) and spray the crack under the skirting board with the cat's flea spray. The cat won't mind!
Still got half the ironing to do - will give the house a final once-over tomorrow.
DS1 & fiance should be coming to dinner tonight, so need to start on food shortly. Anyway, just popped in to say hello!
Bye!0 -
This is more a vent really, but I feel angry upset and a bit useless.
My Mum emailed me this morning to say that in the early hours of Saturday, my nanna and grandad - who are both in their 80's, were burgled whilst they slept.
Fortunately, they slept through it - I don't even want to think about what could have happened if they had disturbed them, both are a little frail.
Unfortunately, whoever did it got away with over £3000 in cash they had in the house. God only knows why it was in the house and not the bank - I've never thought of them as not being trusting of banks , my nanna in particular has always been very 'modern thinking'
The police have fitted them extra locks for free, but obviously they won't see the money again - I can only presume it was their savings.
On top of that, my nanna had to go into hospital for an operation on a trapped nerve in her wrist yesterday, so I expect was already concerned about that. It seems it has gone ok, but the stress overall must be horrible.
It's not fair. They have lived their lives frugally, honestly and so Old Style you wouldn't believe it. They have saved all their lives, own their own home and don't deserve what has happened. My grandad still grows tomatoes every year in his greenhouse and my nanna's signature dish is mince, mash and gravy.
They are nearly 300 miles away and I feel upset, angry and useless.
I've sent a bouquet of flowers today and some chocolates to try in some way to help a little.
I'm not the most family orientated person ever, but I've always been my nanna's 'favourite' as she looked after me until I was nearly 4 so my Mum could go back to work.
It just seems so unfair that people who have lived their lives so sensibly can have everything they have saved taken away by people or persons who must surely have known that it was an elderly couple living there.
The only small comfort I have is that they slept through it - disturbing them might have made them run off without the money - but the alternative doesn't bear thinking about.
I only wish I had a fraction of what was stolen (I don't know yet if anything else was taken) to give back to them.
I could cry......."Stay Wonky":D

So sorry to hear that. I know how frustrating and upsetting it is. My grandad too got burgled when he was in hospital for a few months. The whole place was ransacked and they got a lot of cash too (I think elderly people tend to like to keep it near them - I don't know why his was not in the bank either). In a way, like you, it is lucky that my grandad was not there as he too is frail. It annoys me that some horrid theives make off with other peoples hard earned money. It is true what is often said, bad things happen to good people. It is a terrible thing to happen, but you have to take some comfort in the fact that it could have been a lot worse had they been woken up.
Hope everything works out ok for your grandparents and it's a nice gesture with the flowers etc.0 -
((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) Keren29 and family.
What a horrible place the world can be sometimes. I know its not much consolation but at least your grandparents were not hurt and we can only hope that the thieves get only misery out of their pickings.:mad:0 -
Well we have had a good day weather wise (sorry to rub it in).
OH day off work today so went to market and bought some fresh fruit and veg and the wilkinson for cleaning stuff.
Am now about to start building a filing cabinet to put all the paperwork in as my old file is bursting at the seems.
Had an argument with CTC as they told me to use the wrong figures and have now been overpayed so not happy  . Will appeal when official letter comes through as I even phoned 3 seperate tiles to verify the figures to use from the payslip and still its wrong. Not my fault!!!!
Breakfast - Teacake and butter
Lunch - coffee
Dinner - Carbonara as didnt eat it last nite
Well off to do my DIY bit and wash some clothes.
TeresaAlthough I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. Love you babies :grouphug:
Fear is a disease....Hope is it's only cure!0 -
(((Hugs))) to Moggins & family - get well soon.
Also (((Hugs))) to Keren29 - we do live in a horrible world, they were lucky in a way - people can be mugged for a couple of pound and for an older person the shock is terrible. I worry about my nan all the time with breakins even though she only has about £100 at any time at home.0 -
(((((((HUGS)))))))) to Keren29, 3 years ago we were burgled whilst we slept, luckily nothing much was taken, but it still shook me up, its a horrible thought to think of someone in your house whilst you are there, but the blessing is that no one was hurt. We moved soon after, i didnt feel safe once that had happened, but gave me the chance to buy my own house, which i prob wouldnt have even considered as i had been happy in the old house until the break in. I hope your grandparents are ok, and feel safer now the police have fitted new locks for them.
((((HUGS)))) also to moggins, hope you all feel better soon, and to Nikki, i hope DD is feeling a bit happier now she has her photo.
Well, my level was only 42, but thats quite good for me, and my consultant has agreed that i can have a break for 3 months, and they will see me in September, so im really pleased. I do have an open appointment tho, any probs and i can go straight in so thats good. Little one was well behaved, and slept for just over an hour this afternoon, so ive managed to get a lot more done today than i did yesterday!!!!
We have just got back from DDs speach therapy, and even though she hasnt been for 3 weeks, and to be honest, didnt practice at all whilst we were on holiday, she did really well!!! She goes back in 2 weeks now.
Right, off to start dinner, a nice easy salad, chicken and garlic bread tonight, and DS has football training at 6, but i think we will eat when we get back, about 7.30, i just want to get it all ready for later!!!!
Hugs to anyone i forgot earlier, take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0 -
