Update - just got the email from Barclays - they're settling for the full amount. Apparently 'as the sum is relatively modest, it's not cost effective to take it further'. I don;t personally call £2.5k modest, but hey ho.
I am so smart. S-M-R-A-T. To quote Homer J Simpson....
Yay!!!! I can pay my rent!!!! and my bills!!!

WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!

is this one good enough for you ? Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Hey Annie - yes, they closed any of my accounts that had charges applied, funnily enough they've kept the account that had the child benefit going in....
I'd advise you to open an account with a different bank before claiming, to ensure there aren;t problems with direct debits. They offered to pay the money into my remaining account with them, but I said no. I don;t want them taking it back to put toward the loan I have outstanding, as I need to it pay bills with.
Thanks again0 -
Hi Obi,
I used to shop at Myer's of Keswick (mmm homemade sausage rolls) when I lived in New York and one thing I wish I could've got more easily was orange (or any other flavour) of squash. In the States it's fizzy pop, actual fruit juice, or sugary still mixed juice drinks which cost a fortune and either rot your teeth or are loaded with rubbish. I'm not the world's best when it comes to drinking water and I can only do it with a bit of flavour it in, and on an intern's wages, I couldn't afford to buy six bottles of Snapple a day. This was back in the days before the debt, when I only had to buy for myself and could be as frugal as I liked!
I remember when my co-worker's parents shipped him over a crate of Irn Bru and we made everyone in the office give it a try. Good times.
I know the postage would be quite a bit, but I would've paid it! I have to take my cousin a bottle or two of Vimto every time I go back to visit as you can't get that over there either, although Ribena is popular with the Chinese community, you can buy it in the Chinese supermarkets in New York.

Hey nevada, thanks for the tip. We've been asked about squash before, so we're off to the warehouse tomorrow to make some lists. I swear the staff there think we're nuts.
Well guys, the morning sickness is really kicking in, doesn't help when the Loving Daddy To Be decides to wave an Egg McMuffin under my nose as well. Pukesome at the best of times....
Things are going well. I'm having to apply for bailiffs to go is, as the lass I took to court for back rent (and won against) managed 2 weeks of paying a tenner a week, and hasn't been seen for the last 2. So no more mucking around, I'm going for the county court bailiff (who is a nice man, I have to say, not like those swamp sucking scumhounds Rossendales.)
Sending of my letter today for my bank charges, should be in time for this months rent which takes the pressure off. Then I can get some bills paid and I'll be happy.
Went out yeasterday with some cash I'd saved for my best mates birthday. We got a facial, hair done and eyebrow wax (at the local college, so supercheap) then a light lunch and the cinema. We saw Last Mimzy which was a bit strange, but not bad. Then home for a night on the safa being drooled at by OH (cos I did look gorge, I have to say!!) It was really nice, and to be honest just what I needed. Money has been a real worry, and it was so nice to kick back with my friend and not have to think about it.
I hope we ca all feel like that at some point today. That it's all coming together, it's getting sorted and we don;t have to worry so much any more. We're getting things paid, our £2 coin stashes are mounting and our spreadsheets are looking particularly colourful. We all deserve that, and we'll all get it soon. This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

hi Obi, just catching up and really pleased to see that Barclays are paying out.
I sent my completed AQ back last month but am still awaiting a court date. Barclays did fail to submit their AQ though so I am not sure whether that is a good sign or not - the girl at the court seemed to think things would go in my favour, but who knows. I am claiming 4k ish so hopefully they will see mine too as an insignificant amount that is not worth defending
Well done on the claim, and good luck with getting the cash from the disappearing tenant!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hey Hyno chick, glad things are going well. In my case they did retunr the AQ, albeit on the last day. Their defense was basically 'we have no proof', then me asking for my statements triggered the offer. If they haven't defended it, it looks pretty good. And don;t forget hardle any actually get to court. My offer cam a week before the court date. If you've sent off your questionnaire (not forgetting to claim for the fee back if applicable, or adding it to the claim) you should get your cout date fairly soon. This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

That sounds encouraging then. Just need to hold on tight! The cash would come in mighty useful right now though because the laptop died and I need one for [STRIKE]surfing MSE[/STRIKE] work and at the moment it looks like I will have to pay for a replacement on a credit card
Perhaps the nice judge will look at my papers today.....Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Looking good love, hang in there. I was a bit worried, especially when their defense came in at 5 pages and was written in toal legalese!! But all sorted now, and in the nick of time!!
Your sig looks great love, keep at it. That matched betting total is great, must check it out myself. This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Morning chicks,
Not as horribly sick today, just a pounding headache which I attribute to a coffee on the train in. Trying to cut down on the teas, I washed my mug out at work (says Brilliant Boss, A Team Effort Is A Lot of People Doing What I Say. Makes me feel important) and it's really caked on with brown. So imagine what my lower intestine looks like. Yuck.
Started reading a book on the train called 'Not Buying it' by Judith Levine. It follws the writer on a year of not spending anything uneccesary, after a particularly harrowing Xmas shopping expedition. Not a very 'hand on' book, more like a social and economic commentry, with snippets of how over the year she realises how caught in consumerism we all are. Very high brow and made me feel ever so intelligent, but not a manual for lowering spending.
Doing really well on Ebay & amazon, £230 so far this month. The lass who owes me back rent STILL hasn't come in to pay her measly £10 a week (you can't tell me it's all she can afford, she's head to foot in designer gear. Chavtastic) so it's off to the courts today for a warrant of execution. That'll teach her to mess with me.
So far looking up, my chicks. Still trying to get Barclays to accept my lower payments, basically it's all they're going to get, so they might as well accept it. Just got to start getting back into the packed lunch habit. Bought lunches have crept in, and now we're spending about £30 a week. Got to stop. Got a nice looking book out the library for ideas on funky lunches, so hopefully I won;t get bored of ham sandwich after ham sandwich.
Hope you all have a cheap day, and don't forget, each day is another day more debt free than the last. This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!
