I have applied for a Halifax visa electron card and they have sent me a Bank of Scotland Easycash that says Visa Electron on it.

I applied for the B O Scotland card and got the Halifax one !,horrible green colour to it too.
I have a deep burning indifference
  • If I get a Visa Electron card, do I get the same protection as a credit card? I am wishing to buy some flights but want to be protected if the company goes bust, but I also don't want to pay the charges associated with using my credit card (I know, I want it both ways!!)

  • I got mine from the Post Office, its called a Travel Money Card, but it is a Visa Electron card and its free! I got one after I wanted to book another checked baggage which was £20 online but I would have had to pay an extra £5 per person for using a debit card! I go abroad regularly so I'll save lots of pounds:T

How quickly are you guys getting these cards through?

I applied on the Bank Of Scotland site for an Easy access account about 5 weeks ago and never sent anything.

I tried again 10 days ago via the Halifax site for the same account but havn't herd anything since.
  • Hi Guys,

you can find a list of banks in the UK that issue visa electron cards in one of the links in wikipedia if you search for Visa Electron.

I hope this helps more travelers like me!

    Cheers
  • Thanks for all the suggestions and info re obtaining a Visa Electron card everyone ! I only want one to avoid paying Ryanair the booking fee.
On a return flight for two adults it would be £20.00 !!
My initial choice was the Post Office Travel Money Card...but it charges percentages for withdrawals etc, so....
I've applied for a Halifax/BoS Easycash account today 13/08/09, (I already bank with HBoS) so let's see how quickly I receive confirmation/the card!!
  • I fly every other week with RyanAir and have been stung with SO many of their card charges. Only just found out about Halifax's EasyCash account so I have just applied online. It says they are receiving high numbers of applications for this account so it make longer than normal......

I had a look at this one, doen't it charge you 1.5% for putting sterling onto the card?

Other initial fees1.5% commission for loading Sterling (£) card, subject to a minimum fee of £3, maximum fee of £20
  • Its obvious Visa Electron is an obsolete product that Visa is in the process of currently phasing out and that is why most financial organisations no longer offer them and are replacing them with Visa Debit. Ryanair has only targeted it for that very reason.

Co-op has already now withdrawn their Electron card so how much longer before Alliance & Leicester follows suit, especially if they realise that all the Electron accounts that have been opened lately are only used a handful of times per year and are losing them money.............
