The post office has a larger minimum charge (£3 is quoted above), so £60 is the break-even point between the Post Office and Entropay (who have a £10 minimum transfer amount or 50p min charge), ie Entropay works out cheaper for putting up to £60 on a card. Also you have to go to a post office whereas I assume that with Entropay you don't have to plan ahead and can just get it working in a few minutes on their website.
  • [QUOTE=Pablo_S;24242007however_it_would_only_work_out_cheaper_with_Easyjet_for_flights_under_£60,_as_they_charge_'only'_£2.95_per_booking_on_a_debit_card.[/QUOTE]

Easyjet also charge payment fees for Visa Electron too but at a lower still rate than Credit Card (their most expensive payment mechanism) or debit card (cheaper than credit card but more expensive than Visa Electron) of just over £1. So that suggests the break even point for using Entropay with Easyjet may be more like flights under £30 or £40.........

I thought Visa Electron was free on Easyjet but I haven't looked for a couple of months when booking a flight. Checking on their payment options page (can't post the link as I'm a newbie but enter "easyjet payment options" in Google and the first result should get you there), it reads:

    "New bookings
All bookings will incur a £2.95 booking fee save for bookings made by Visa electron and Carte Bleue (domestic transactions only) which are free. Bookings made by Visa Credit Card, MasterCard, Diners Club, American Express, UATP/Airplus will incur an additional fee of 2.5% of the total transaction value, with a minimum charge of £4.00, whichever is greater."

Is the above out of date?

When I last tried to book with Easyjet 6 or so months ago there were different card fee levels for credit card, debit card and Visa Electron but none were booking fee free but Visa Electron was cheapest.

May be they have changed yet again but I note the list you quote above does not include the charges for Visa Debit Card or Maestro, which I find very odd.
  • They don't specifically list those debit cards because those are the ones they are referring to at the start when they state "All bookings will incur a £2.95 booking fee...". Then they list the ones where that charge doesn't apply, ie costs nothing or a lot more.

I've booked a number of flights with Easyjet over the last few months and always paid with my Visa debit card and was charged £2.95.
  • I want to book some flights now. Just found this visa electron malarkey after seeing martin on TV this morning. Do I need a physical card? I'm sure I spotted someone (on here) posting a link to a site that did the same thing? If not - how quick could I get one of these cards?

I know I sound manic - that's because I am at the moment!

If anyone can help fast - that would be super!!!

  • Tiff - I love you!

Now - how do I know how much to bung on here - just to pay for my flights? How can I work that out?

Total is £380 at the mo, would be just over £400 with normal payment - does that mean get the virtual card and load up £380 onto it? Sounds dumb I know - but it could save me near £20!! :D
