If my friends in Spain used this option, would Ryanair accept this like an electron card?
I read somewhere here, that some people have trouble getting there 'electron' cards accepted if the live abroad.

Now - how do I know how much to bung on here - just to pay for my flights? How can I work that out?
Total is £380 at the mo, would be just over £400 with normal payment - does that mean get the virtual card and load up £380 onto it? Sounds dumb I know - but it could save me near £20!!
If you load the Entropay Visa Electron card with £380 you will be charged a loading fee of 4.95% which works out at £18.81 so your total cost using Entropay will be £398.81.
If you got a Visa Electron from Halifax here you could wire the £380 to that account and incur no other fees. I applied for this account and got the card within a week which isn't great if you are in a rush to book flights but if you can hold off it'll save you £20.0 -

Well said... all about pre-planning. Currently Halifax are taking more than 7 days to start looking at applications, but if you are (or think you will be taking a flights with Ryanair or another low cost airline) you had might as well get yourself round to applying for the Halifax account above. This is what I have just done as I'll be moving to an area soon where low cost airlines fly into! ANd no credit check to boot... perfect!0 -
Hi Guys,
I think I have posted something like this before, but now I got my card so I can tell for sure it is correct. There is a website that has a list of banks that issue Visa Electron cards in the UK and the website couldn't be more obvious: visa-electron .co.uk
Hope it helps0 -
I posted on 13th August, when I applied for a Halifax/Hbos Easycash account online that night - to get a Visa Electron card for Ryan Air flights.
Well I got the confirmation letter yesterday morning 24th August, so that took 10 days !
The letter promises my card within 7 days, so it's not taken very long.
(nb I already have a Current Account with Halifax/Hbos)0 -
I applied online last week with Halifax for an Easycash account to get the Visa Electron card. Recieved reply yesterday. Card will arrive within 8 days. I have never had any dealings with Halifax, so to me it seems the best way to go for the electron card. The prepaid one with Travelex has fees. LOOKOUT RYANAIR!!!0

Visa Europe have now issued their reply to my earlier email asking why nearly all of their UK merchants have been withdrawing the issue of Visa Electron cards.
You will see that their response effectively amounts to an admission that Visa Europe has been quite deliberately engaging in a program of forcing its UK card issuers to replace Visa Electron with Visa Debit cards in a rolling program and that they also believe Ryanair, Easyjet et al are behaving anticompetitively by only not charging a card transaction fee on Visa Electron cards. However they claim that under current UK consumer protection legislation there is nothing they can do about it.

Dear Mr __________,
Thank you for contacting Visa Europe and please accept our apologies for not replying to you sooner.
The migration of the Co-op Cashminder Account to Visa Debit is good news for cardholders. A Visa Debit card provides wider acceptance, both online and abroad and benefits from strong consumer protection.
We are aware that some online retailers are currently operating an arbitrary surcharging policy, discounting certain types of cards over others. Visa is against any form of surcharging because we believe it hurts consumers. We have very clear rules in place to ensure that different forms of payment are not discriminated at the point of sale. However national legislation takes precedence. In the UK, this means that retailers may make a surcharge to accept certain types of payment.
To take advantage of current pricing policies you may wish to purchase a Visa Electron prepaid card. A number of these are available in the UK and expert web sites can point you to a selection to choose from.
With kind regards
