I was in Clinton Cards (the High St greeting card retailer) today and they seem to sell a top-up ELECTRON Card.
This could be interesting.. wish I could find it here:

See post #121 (on the previous page!).
  • Thought I would call co-op and open up an account with an electron card, was honest and told her why I wanted it, for my Ryanair flights and was told that " they have had a briefing this morning and if this is the only reason you want the account I can't open it"

Apparantly they are looking into the charges on it and I would have to transfer all my banking to them if I wanted an account.

Grrr should have done it a while ago, but you know how it is! At the moment I can't be bothered to call back and not tell them the exact reason I want it!

Anyone else had a different experience...sometimes I think it's just me!

In one of the topics explaining how to get the cheapest fares, someone reccomended opening a savings account (Smart Saver) with Co-Op to get a Visa Electron card. I did it and yesterday received a Link card instead.
I'm sure I read the terms and it was advertised that I'd receive an Electron card, so this is a little waring to anyone that decides to open this account just to get the Electron card. I haven't tried the card yet, but I don't think a Link card is the same as the Electron.
  • I just signed up for the Halifax Visa Electron thank you for your advice! Only took 5 mins :) :j I have visa debit cards and even a prepay visa debit card but they still attract the £16 fee on Ryanair which seems a bit excessive.

Emailed Smile on Tuesday and asked if they would issue me with a Visa Electron card on my current account.

    It arrived this morning :-)

Paid for bargain Ryanair flight to Murcia, over Xmas, tonight!

Do you have the Smile electron card in addition to a standard Smile visa debit card or instead?

Co op Electron cards used to be Link years ago anyway. My new electron card (although is not Smart Saver acct.) still shows Link onthe back. (Useable no charge at Link machines).

If your card is an Electron, it should say ELECTRON (in white on mine) in R/H corner under the VISA logo.

(You could of course, always find out by asking the bank before trying it out?!!).

My card was only a Link card. Fortunatelly I also applied for a halifax account at the same time and already received my Electron and now I look forward to some cheap flights soon! And big thanks to this forum.
