Pigeongirl wrote:Have you tried filling in an HC1 form (available from opticians and doctors' surgeries)? You could be entitled to free eye tests and a free pair of specs and even help towards cost of contact lenses (although the voucher is worth more if used for specs). If you are entitled you will get an HC2 form back through when you've sent off the HC1. You use the HC2 to get the free stuff - you could get free doctor's prescriptions too or at least some help towards the costs of these things.
It has been a few years since I filled one out but I assume they are still about! Just pop into Specsavers or suchlike and ask for HC1 - it's worth a shot!
Best wishes
I was itching to suggest this when I read the first post, glad I read through the rest now
I work in an opticians, and if although I don't work on the shop floor I know that most people in receipt of tax credits can usually get help towards specs. You get free specs up to a certain value but you can upgrade to a decent frame from £10 I think. Also, you should be able to find a lower cost CL package, even with astigmatism. If you're a bit shy about asking the staff there should be a poster up in store somewhere listing the types of benefits that qualify. Hope this helps, and good luckDFW Nerd #104 I :heartpuls my Kittenand my hat :heartpuls
