The arrogance of some Ebayers

Hintza wrote:To me EBay is a store front it is not an auction. Virtually all my items are sold on BIN. I normally now list in a 3 day listing and price my items the top end of selling price band. Therefore if an item sells regularly for £90- £110 I would list it with a BIN of £100. assuming I bought it for £70 I make £30 (less fees) and hopefully I have sold 3-4 items in the same time that the guy who listed his on a 10 day auction and received £110. He makes £40 profit meanwhile I have sold 4 and made £120. This is where most folk who buy items cheaply go wrong they try to maximise profit at the expense of turnover.
the shouty board - luvin it ;+)
Hintza if your using BIN's on 3 day auctions this might be of some use to you.

It exploits ebays auction revision oppurtunities i.e 12 hours before auction
ends changes the number of days for you (so 3 day, 5 day, 7day, 10 day). You can do it manually but I always tend to forget so this is pretty useful and defo worth there fees.0 -
in all fairness many people put high postage for items to lower ebay costs, but theres putting high postage and completely blowing it out of proportion!! I sell sim cards, which can be simply the cost of a 32p stamp and an envolope, yer i charge 1.50 ish but is only marginally more than the real cost. £40 for a camera, u could get like 10 cameras sent to japan at that cost!!
Im wondering why that guy who sed he could get them at 85 wanted to pay 90!!0 -
Cos ASDA had none left and he wanted another one0

Crikey - this thread has really got the bees buzzin' !!
I know Ebay comes in for a lot of criticism and there are aspects which drive me up the wall but I also have to say that without it I wouldn't be able to make the bit of money that I do. It suits me and when it doesn't then I'll stop using it.
I try to keep my postage to a reasonable amount as I know that when I've got my 'buying hat' on an inflated postage always puts me off and I won't bid. That is my choice just as it's someone else's choice to bid on an item with an inflated postage if they want to. If the postage is declared upfront and you win the item then you just have to pay up and shut up!
I don't actually agree with fee avoidance and honestly think any seller who puts a huge mark-up on postage will do themselves more harm in the long run as most buyers will run a mile. If they don't then that's their decision.
Despite having a fairly hot temper my way of dealing with the occasional stroppy e-mail is to remain irritatingly polite!

Got to back her up here for the idiots that dont know how Ebay works
I also stick on low starting price and higher P&P as Ebay charges listing fees against starting price
It does not charge listing fees against (starting price + P&P)
Hence i can list my camera for 0.99p starting fee and £30 P&P. it will cost £0.15 to list but im guaranteed 30.99 if bid on.
Otherwise I would have to start at £30 and will cost me £2.50 listing fee.

Majority of things on ebay are purchased or bid for in dying few minutes or close to end of item.
If you keep putting off end date, no-ones ever going to bid for them0 -

I"
It is a shame that people know how it works but then forget to read the terms and conditions they signed up for.
If you don't like the fees, don't use ebay. It really couldn't be simpler.
