  • The Marmalade card doesn't claim to save you money ALL the time. It needs to be used with discretion. The web site does say:

'There will be times when the local garage or supermarket may be cheaper but this may not always be the case with prices at the pumps constantly changing.

Use the card when you can save and not when you cannot.'

Just to throw another spanner in...If we get a GE card as per Martins tip this week we would save 3p in every pound on fuel. This is probably a better deal than using the discount card as at 94p a litre it is giving us 2.82p back. Better still if anyone can answer the 'paying off the discount card with a credit card' question then perhaps we could do both...? Simon

Yes, but if you can't recoup the annual charge then you're not saving, you're losing!

    Tesco/Esso Express Dartford 91.9p
Sainsbury's Crayford 93.9p plus Nectar points
Morrisons Erith 94.9p plus 1.5p off with Miles card.

So no good for me. It's just a way to get people to use these particular petrol stations as they make far more money on ciggies, groceries and carwashes than they do with petrol.

A nice idea in theory and I will be keeping an eye on it. Hope this Pipeline card hurries up...

Well my local garage is 98.9 and only 1 mile away from my house. I can get 94.9 at the supermarket but thats 10 miles away.

OK it might not right for everyone but some can make use of it! In my case being able to use my local and not drive so far to fill up, how often do people waste fuel just to feel better about paying less even if it does mean the saving is lost in the additional drive.

    question to all-

does the government take a pence amount from fuel pump prices or is it a percentage? i just dont understand that on every other product there seems to be a price war going on, why not on petrol and diesel?!?!

i understand that the cost of crude oil is the highest its been and all that, but it still must be a minimal cost price for the actual retailer.

you would think though, that with the amount of different fuel retailers out there, they would be in competition with each other and if one large chain decided they wanted more custom they could drop there prices forcing others to do the same!

it is getting ridiculous lately, for those of us who rely on cars and dont get anything back from company expenses its really hard.

(sorry, thats the end of my rant and rave)

How do you know there isn't a constant price war going on, what with profits on fuel sales so slim? If a chain drops its prices it won't benefit long term from customer loyalty, because the market works so well - people will simply move somewhere else when it can no longer stand the losses.

i filled up yesterday at 91.9p and got morrison miles worth another 1.5% off the totall.

I figure another 2p saving off this would be worth researching, but low and behold Marmalade are charging 94.2p this week. This is crazy even my local Shell and Esso are 92.9p. Im sure this card may help some people but it deffinately is not the holy grail. Infact concerning petrol im not sure the holy grail is even out there.
