PrincessTazza, your sprout Gratin, have you made it early before. Thinking about making it minus the breadcrumbs the night before, topping with breadcrumbs in the morning and then cooking. Do you think it would be ok? Also No leeks (what does the No bit stand for sorry if Ive missed the obvious) TIA JayI hope that my child, looking back on today

If anyone wants a different recipe for sprouts, try this one. Hubby has always hated sprouts, now I have to do this recipe every year as he can't get enough! The recipe originally had vermouth but I didn't have any, so the only white spirit I had was tequila, gives them a good kick.
25g butter, 900g sprouts (trimmed and halved), salt & pepper, 1 tbsp caraway seeds, 3 tbsp tequlia/vermouth
Heat butter in frying pan over medium heat. Add sprouts and season. Cook stirring for 3 minutes. Add seeds and when sprouts look charred add tequila/vermouth. Cook, stirring, over high heat for 1 minute.WINS 2009 so far £212

We'll be at hubby's grandparents along with the in-laws, I'd like to say I've no idea what we'll be getting but we've been for the last 4 years and there hasn't been any change in menu in that time, I doubt it's happening now!
Turkey, roasties, parsnips, carrots (possibly swede and carrot mash), sprouts, peas, maybe mash and stuffing followed by Christmas pud. They don't make a huge fuss and there wont be a starter. Breakfast will be cereal. Hubby is veggie and is getting quorn fillets and veggie sausages which I don't think is very thoughtful, particularly as his parents were veggie for years as well but they never put in an effort to make anything special. I am sure it will be tasty enough though and as I'm neither cooking nor paying I can't really complain!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

There will be 3 adults here on Christmas day. We won't bother with a starter and will have fillet of beef with potatoes roasted in beef dripping, various vegetables including cauliflower cheese, yorky puds and thick gravy for our Christmas dinner.
Dessert will be Champagne and raspberry jellies. Red wine to drink.0 -
For the first time in 35years I am not having all the family for a big traditional christmas dinner. There will be 4 adults and 1 child so we have decided to have
Prawn Cocktails
Fillet Steak
Bacon & Sausage rolls requested by granddaughter
Onion Rings
Chips
Peas
Salad garnish
and for pudd something chocolatey from my DIL
then go for a huge walk in the woods ready for a lovely christmassy sit down tea.0 -
Well, we're not doing a traditional Christmas dinner after realising that we're not expected (invited) to either set of parents this year! We had a family conference to decide which meal we'd really love to eat and we decided on a curry! So we're going all out, poppadoms, chutneys etc, bhajis, various side dishes and a spicy curry for the main course. Gorgeous.0

We're having goose this year, for the first time - a 6kg free-range one to feed 10 adults.
Anyone any tips on cooking goose? Was thinking of doing an apple and lemon stuffing and a sausagemeat one.
Any advice welcome!
Thanks0 -

We're not having a starter, I considered it but people struggle to eat my main course so I don't think there's any point! I to go overboard as I love to cook and love food. Last year I had about 9 veg dishes alongside the 3 meats (plates struggled) so trying hard to tone it down this year! A lot will be cooked in advance and frozen so I can spend more time with the kids on the day, and also I'll be 8 months pregnant lol!
Only problem is we have a really small oven this year... timing is going to be hell!
Christmas Dinner
Meat - (all will be cooked the day before, then reheated in gravy or served cold)
Beef joint (topside, currently better than half price in tesco - cost me £9)
Duck (bought in Tesco when it was half price at £8)
Gammon (tesco again, £10)
Veg and sides -
Roast potatoes (will start cooking these soon, going to freeze when just browned then cook from frozen on the day - Aunt Bessie eat your heart out!)
Roast parsnips, glazed with honey and rosemary (again will prob cook and freeze soon)
Roasted sweet potato
Leeks in cheese sauce (expect I can cook and freeze this too?)
Carrot and onions (this is cooked on hob, caramalise onions then add tinned carrots, sugar and cinnamon - cheap, quick and easy, tastes amazing!)
Sprouts (a token effort, so not many of these, one year I did a lovely sprout stir-fried thing with walnuts but still didn't appeal to the sprout haters!)
Red cabbage (got to have colour!)
Swede mash
will try to keep it to that for the veg...
Yorkshire puddings (I make and freeze these Aunt B style too)
Sausages in bacon (my Mum's doing these, even though she's veggie!)
Stuffing (will probably make and part cook in balls then freeze)
Dessert
Baileys Tiramasu (Nigella)
Xmas pud (Lidl)
Mince Pies (H/M - warm with cream...)
Guess I'd better start cooking now lol
Sorry come to this a bit late, what's the proportions for this please!!!0
