My DH is brilliant now!! Before having DD he didn't do much around the house, and had never cooked etc, but as soon as I was pregnant that all changed.

He will do anything that is asked (just remember this is a 2 way street as men do things very differently than we would. I sometimes have to repeat my mantra "Just because it's not my way, doesn't make it wrong." Important things I will say, I usually do it in X way etc but if it isn't important then I leave him to it, as I feel men's confidence can be easily knocked with babies, so let them find their own way :) )

As I BF DD he took on bathing so he had something that was for them. Not to say I don't do bath time but he mainly does it, and sometimes we do it together. I think more than just taking the load of me for 15 minutes to clear my head, it has also allowed them to build a strong bond from when she was tiny!

BIL's job 'under threat' so not been looking for somewhere ot live but would u if you were paying £25 a week for a room, cooked meals and no housework!! TBH I Have just upped his rent to £40 A week but thats for all his food & Bills.

OH just doesn't think he should be getting up in the night so he doesn't. He can;t cook, doesn't see dirt or the need for doing housework, doesn;t seem confident bathing J and he always kicks up for OH when it comes to feeds.

OH is playtime and I'm the carer - but J knows who to come to when he wants something ;)

It will all chnage when I go back to work in June!!
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?
  • It's a shame he can't help you out more. DH doesn't really "see" anything needing doing but if I ask he will do stuff. He doesn't really cook unless it's fajitas but he knows he'll be doing the reheating of the batch clooking once bubs is here and is ok with making the rice / pasta to go with it.

For £40 a week BIL should be more grateful of what you do for him too!! Hope his work sorts out one way or another so he can get his own place and you can have yours back.

Anyway I'm off to bed now. Night all x

Funny though, my midwife isn't at all worried weight wise, they apparently don't worry too much up here unless you're BMI 40+. Haven't had any consultant care either, though my practice does shared care between GP and midwives (maybe the reason for them not bothering too much?).

Maybe it varies from one pct to another. With J I saw plenty of midwives and GPs as the care was shared. This time round I see a midwife never (this week third appointment). But after booking in the hospital wanted to see me. I thought it was because I had problems having Joseph, but no, they didn't even register that, it was all about the weight. Nice.

I've never understood the 'phone your midwife' or 'have mw's mobile number' :rotfl:. I have to phone the surgery and run the gauntlet of the receptionists (last time I just got to see a nurse), so it's easier to come on mse and ask for advice .

me neither! I had booking at 11 weeks, MW just after xmas, will see GP week after next, then MW won't see me until April! According to the schedule I was given, I should, as a first time mum, be seen every 4 weeks - not 7!

I wonder if our OH's are related???

My OH is terrible for doing anything as he see's everything as being OK as we've just had a baby. If i ask him to make dinner it somehow gets translated to takeaway. He gets confused by the sterilizer mainly because he can't work the microwave, this also rules out heating baby milk even though it is one button you press and impossible to overheat the milk just takes off the chill.

House work is the same he wrinkles all the clothes and i hate ironing so if i let him hang the washing it creates more work, he also can't put it away as he "doesn't know where stuff goes" erm open the effing drawer if it's full of underwear then put the underwear in it .............. shimples lol

BUT this is the man that when DD was born sterilized her bottles etc then made a large batch of milk in a measuring jug straight from the cupboard and poured it into the bottles and could not understand why i poured it all down the sink!

This time round i just get on with things, at night i sort out my table with a bottle muslin etc then just give OH a kiss and say after you feed him put him in his cot lol Then i run off to bed, that way i get a few hours extra undisturbed sleep and he can say he helps. Although he still can't change a nappy disposible or washable he woke DD(12) the other night for help:rotfl::rotfl:

oh great dog needs a walk....... will be back later, need to catch up on birth's.
    Hugs all round X

    Hi Glam

Sounds like your being run ragged. Can i just say i wouldnt count on it all changing when you go back to work my ex didnt lift a finger whilst i was off on maternity leave and because he had formed little or no bond with my daughter other than playing she wouldnt go to him for anything else. Dont forget once you return to work J will be going through his abandonment stage. Its perfectly natural as they suddenly realise they are individiuals and not part of mommy any more but it will make your other half chipping in even harder if he hasnt done the routine things on a regular basis. Sit down and have a good long chat with him about it after all he will be the one missing out in the long run and it could make him feel pushed out if J only settles for his mommy.

On a lighter note good luck for next year wonder if you will be back before im gone again :-) xx

  • Morning everyone!

Haven't posted in a while, just been lurking. Congratulations to all the new mummys and babys!!:j Welcome to all the newbies!:j

I'm 25 weeks now and after having two weeks off from the morning sickness a little while ago it has now returned with a vengeance! Thankfully I'm not getting the nausea everyday but still throwing up most mornings which is just great fun. It's just as well I work from home, I don't think I could cope with it and a normal job!

On the subject of BMI's and extra scans, at booking in I had BMI of 37 and they said this meant (coupled with the fact that DH is tall) that baby could end up too big for me, so they will give me extra growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks to check. I also get more scans at 28 and 34 weeks as part of the medical study we're taking part in! So plenty of chance to recheck if boy or girl as at 20 weeks they thought was a girl but couldn't be sure.

I've been mega organized and bought most of what we need all ready, and the nursery's nearly finished too. It's only a tiny box room but we've repainted, put in new carpet, and got new winnie pooh curtains and lightshade. We've built the cotbed and the toybox (got the I Love my bear ones from babies r us, which are gorgeous!) and started getting everything in now. The only large things we have left to get is a travel cot to use in living room so our clumsy labrador doesn't send baby flying everytime he decides to bark at the squirrels in the garden and a bouncy chair. I'm holding out for a bargain on ebay for these.

Going bargain baby clothes shopping in Cambridge today but to tell you the truth I'm more excited trying to plan what to have for lunch! At the moment its a toss up between chilli chicken ramen at wagamamas or a zinger box meal at kfc! mmmmmmmmmm!

  • Morning ladies -I have news!!!

    My waters have gone!

Woke up a few times to painful BH's in the night, then at 8.10 this morning I woke up to another, went to the bathroom and as I sat down..... GUSH!

Thought maybe I had imagined it (I remember a couple people earlier in the thread thinking waters had gone to be told it was probably a build up of discharge) so I went back to bed. Drifted off to sleep but 20 mins later woken by another BH, got up out of the bed and as I stood up.... GUSH again! Now I'm thinking I'm not imagining it!!!

So now sat downstairs bouncing on my ball and waiting fo rthe contractions to get a bit stronger. Supposed to phone MW as soon as waters go, but just in case the contractions don't do enough quickly enough I'm going to leave it another 20 mins or so before I phone, to try and delay / avoid induction if at all possible!

Nikki labour vibes to you, hope things have started and are going well or do start soon for you!

I'll update you all in a bit! :D

Wow! How exciting SarahJoanne! You will soon be having baby cuddles I should think. Hope all goes smoothly.

Side stepping up and down the stairs is supposed to be good for getting baby down and out :D

As long as you have noted the time that your waters went then you will be OK leaving it for a little while, they just like to keep an eye in case of infection, if labour doesn't start within 24 hrs (I think) fingers crossed you will be well under way asap to avoid induction. Nipple stimulation raises your oxytocin levels :D
