Am I allowed to stuff my face with double chocolate gateaux just because I am doing the glucose tolerance test from Sunday night? I'm feeling really greedy, just in case they find something wrong and I can't have chocolate anymore :rotfl::eek:

Is the glucose drink really disgusting? Any tips on drinking it?

Why do 'heavier' (how pc! I would say lardy, but I am nicely pregnant atm thank you very much) mothers need a scan at 32 weeks?

I don't think they do that in my area - at least no one has mentioned it to me (and my BMI is 30+). Would be kind of interested to hear anything on it though.

oh and as for monitors, I'll be using one. I live in an L shaped flat with the bedrooms at the far end from the living space and doors which shut themselves. I can't hear the door buzzer when it goes off so i'm sure without a monitor, I'd spend my whole life pacing the hallway!

Yes of course you are!! I am about to eat the whole batch of cookies if it makes you feel any better!?! (ETA well maybe not the whole batch but certainly a few!!)

Not had the test but apparently tastes a lot like lucozade (or a cheaper version of)

Just got the cookies out of the oven and having a warm one with a glass of choc milk  Thanks again Som!!! :A These are fab!

  • Rustic bacon & cheddar bread from Bake by Rachel Allen

    320g plain flour
    1 tbsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp black pepper
    100g cheddar, grated
100g bacon lardons, cooked until just crispy and cooled
    200ml milk
    2 eggs
    1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
    60ml olive oil

Preheat oven to 180 degrees / gas mk 4.
lightly oil and line 5" x 9" loaf tin with parchment paper
Sift all dry ingredients into large bowl, add cheese and lardons and mix
Pour milk into large measuring jug, add eggs, mustard and olive oil and whisk to combine
Make a well in centre of dry ingredients and slowly pour in liquid, stirring all the time until it is all incorporated
Pour mixture into prepared tin and bake in oven for 50 minutes
Remove from tin and place directly on oven shelf for further 10 mins to crisp up the base
When cooked it will sound hollow when tapped on the base.
    Cool on a wire rack
  • That's really really fab news cafcgirl-chuffed for you!Hope the move goes smoothly :T

  • However, when I made it I didn't have bacon so just used a couple of slices of ham, cut up into pieces, and I didn't use mustard cos I don't really like it!

And it was amazing with a thick smear of real butter while it was still warm!

Ahem :o, we're talking bmi past 35 . But only just :A

The consultant (which I had to see because of the bmi) said at the time of booking that my baby might be too large, so they have to have a look. But I only weighed 5lbs more than during previous pregnancy, when I was 'normal' apparently, so can't share in their panic. After all Joseph came out two weeks late and only 8lb1, so not exactly giant. Having seen my scrawny son, the consultant had the cheek to ask if it was the same father :mad::rotfl:.

I don't think I like lucozade, roll on monday morning... bleurgh.
