  • Ooh yes i have tried calling and just left a message - we'll see what happens.

Yeah, i have tried that approach, of please don't keep me in longer than needed - i always get told just a day more over and over and it's only when i burst into tears that they feel sorry and move their butts and get a registrar in to discharge me. Twice the blimming doctor has said ''oh your still here, i thought you went home days ago''.....grrrrrrrrrrr which made me feel worse! Badly organised unit IMO!

And the last time after a week i discharged myself, i got so fed up i got dressed and packed, spoke to the midwife (again in tears) and said i'm not waiting any longer becuase i don't know what i'm even waiting for anymore....i was waiting for a Neurologist who was on blimming holiday!!!!! They didn't like it but the nice midwife said ok and she understands but she'd have to put it on my notes :o. So it's in there that i discharged myself...ooops!

MGEB i have to agree about the tomme tippee pump i had this time round and could never get it to work properly it didnt seem to fit my boob properly so never really sucked very well and made my nipples sore.

Has any bought the new avent bottles they have been changed recently i only found out this weekend when staying with a friend she had bought some they are now a soft squishy type plastic rather than the hard one like mine and they also have a blue ring which fits inside the neck to stop all the leakage that i experience with my bottles. I may have to go and buy some as mine leak quite a bit and it is getting on my nerves now :-)

Re NCT classes, I guess it comes down to personal choice and what ever else is available in your area.
For me, the NHS classes were good and I ended up exchanging phone numbers with a couple of the other mums and we met fairly regularly afterwards - I'm still in touch with one, 4 and a half years on. I also found that after I gave birth that things like mother and baby swimming sessions were a great way to socialise - we often went for coffee afterwards. For me, £300 for NCT is just too much - I would rather find other, cheaper ways of meeting other mums - even just pushing the baby to the park will often give you the opportunity to talk to other mothers - generally people are really friendly because many of them are in the same boat....

My NHS classes swere absolutely rubbish, however, despite being an NCT member I never even considered the classes due to cost. I can't see that they can tell you anything you can't research for yourself, then after baby is born (or some places even run bumps and babes) you can find some like minded friends, for waaaaay less than £300.

I know some people swear by them, but I could not justify that sort of money on ante natal classes, as personally I feel that you never know what is going to happen on the day, so all you can do is do as much research as you feel you need to and then see what happens at the time. I would much rather spend the money on a hypno birthing session or good pregnancy yoga etc, but thats just my t'penny worth! :)

Thanks ladies for all your advice I think it may be better to spend the money in other places, like you said fernlibee, pregnancy yoga or pregnancy aqua as can meet people here. Think will go to the free classes. Have been looking at my local provider and they seem to do 3 to 4 (including breast feeding), including an early pregnancy one which I can go to in a couple of weeks.

Hi all. Hope everyone's keeping well!:)

CARC - thanks for the tip re feet. I might mention it to the reflexologist (as if she won't notice!) and see if she can help!

gill - i know what you mean - i have nights like that too. Hopefully once we know we don't have to get up for work, we'll sleep more peacefully! I've found that putting a pillow between my legs really helps me to get comfy and stops me from getting achy hips.

I have become more scared/apprehensive about the whole thing. Maybe it's because I know the piain to come...
Eeek! :eek:I'm quite glad i'm niaive about it - i'm still at the stage where i'm hoping to get through with deep breathing, a birthing pool and maybe some gas and air.

Have got through stuff from NCT classes, is over £300, any views on these isit worth the extra money or should I stick to free NHS ones?

Sir Monster - I'm half way through my NCT classes and have found them really useful. Having the opportunity to talk openly about labour and birth is great, and i've already realised i don't now nearly as much as i thought it did! BUT my course cost about £120 for myself & partner, and that includes 5 evening sessions (2.5hrs each), plus to breastfeeding classes. It's also great for meeting people, even if you're shy like me! But £300 sounds really expensive?!
