    Afternoon everyone :j

Sounds like a lot of you have had a rubbish time with m/w appointments, mine was lovely at booking appointment but this was at the birth centre have my first with the community one in weeks so we shall see.

Welcome moneysaver, hope everything goes well from now on in.

Went to docs again saw someone different and not sure what it is, but has signed me off for another week.

Have got through stuff from NCT classes, is over £300 , any views on these isit worth the extra money or should I stick to free NHS ones? One good thing was to meet other mums as don't know anyone round here. They also sent me details on something called babycafe which is where mums can breastfeed/get support for bf and enjoy a nice coffee/tea etc. Is one a 10/15 min walk so will be good for when bubs come to meet other mums.

Thankyou for this. I have just been having a look and see they have a manual and electric pump half price, now am not sure whether its better to buy a manual or electric one.

  • Hi sirmonster - i havent had any NCT classes but that does sound expensive. Personally i'd say the NHS ones are fine, i had those 1st time round and just learnt in more real (or more demonstrative) terms what i'd already read up on myself. I think if i'd have paid £300 for classes i'd have felt a bit ripped off, but thats just because £300 IS expensive to me. As for meeting mums, you do meet mums at the NHS classes which is nice, i admittedly never kept in touch with any of the ladies but it was nice to know i could talk to them at the classes.

I have opted out of classes this time as it's bit of a mission to get there from here and i read alot (sometimes too much, lol) but having been in hosp a few times i have made 2 quite good new facebook friends now which is nice. And most of the friends you make will be done after baby is born and you go to surestart or the mum&baby tea groups that seem to be everywhere once you know you just have to search them out as they aren't too well advertised ;)

MS12 - just personal opinion but the TommeeTippee manual wasn't great for me (suction not very strong), the avent much much better. The annoying thing is i LOVE the Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles and couldn't get on with the avent ones at all, so it meant having an Avent pump, one bottle to express in and then transferring the milk into the TT bottles.

I have read from reviews that the electric of both are not so good annoyingly (i want an electric one this time for continuing b/fding beyond 6 months) and it looks like the medala swing is the best option (maybe for you too if you intend to solely express). The downside being it's expenisve but the upside is that these sell really well second hand on Ebay (a good at least 50% and possibly 75% money back). Hope that helps a bit - just an opinion though! x

  • I didn't think that i would be able to breastfeed because im on tablets for my underactive throyid but when i saw the midwife she thinks that i can breastfeed. I would need to get a pump to express milk as not long after baby is born i will be back studying at uni. On the days im at home i will be able to feed myself and evenings. What is the best pump, i think i would like a manual one.

I had a manual, Avent one and would express on one side while feeding baby on the other - I went back to work pretty quick so i know what you mean about going back to uni. I found that it meant i kept up my supply so that i was producing enough to do the evening and night feeds - obviously on days off I fed her myself. Once your body gets into the routine i found i didnt' have a lot of leaking, the first few weeks went through loads of breast pads but once everything was established the leaking settled down too. hope this helps. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Philips-AVENT-ISIS-Manual-Breast-Pump-NEW-SEALED-BOX_W0QQitemZ300408269895QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Baby_Baby_Feeding_Breast_Pads_Pumps_LE?hash=item45f1ba6c47 This was the one i had last time and have bought again for this baby. (Only needed replacement silicone bits but got the whole thing so i'd have spares).
I've not tried an electric but i'm others will have some advice about them.

  • Afternoon,
Been for weekly Morrisons brekkie this morn with some friends and I'm so stuffed I'm good for nothing now for the rest of the day,I'll just have to sit browsing on here:j
Congrats and welcome moneysaver12-let us know your due date if you want to be added to the edd list x

SJ Thanks for the update on Gym..... can't believe she's still waiting, I know she wasn't in any kind of hurry to rush babes but she must be like 16 days over now:eek: And to have been in hosp for 4 days now sounds like hell!

It is such a shame MW appts are so sh!!, It's such a special time. I thought it said something that my last appt (34w) was the best appt I've had and strangely my usual MW was on hols and I had a locum one and her trainee who was all enthusiastic and thorough. I left feeling really positive and happy and excited to meet bubs:) I'm due to see mw again for my 36w appt on good fri but cos dr's is closed the locum said my mw would ring me by today to arrange an alternative......bet she doesn't!!!

  • MGEB, really hope bubs stays put for longer for you, have you called MW or dr's just so they can check you over cos if it is likely you are going to go into labour they can give steriods to strengthen babies lungs??? Someone on here said the other day they had had a test which apparantly gave an idea whether or not they were likely to go prematurely...Oh I remember it was barksavingmad I think? x Good luck x

  • Hi, choccy, thank you! No I haven't - i think i should really, i just hate the thought of being sent back in hosp yet again (costs us a fortune as hubbie has to take time off as no family live around us - he works nights so no nursery to put her in either) - And they have a nasty habbit of keeping me in just to fill a bed it feels and keep me in for a week at a time with no care or monitoring apart from the daily do you want a painkiller tablet (even if you don't need one), lol!

But if Barksavingmad is about i wouldn't mind some info on what test they do :D

  • Hi ladies,

Kindof I really feel for you - really hope things have progressed since you and OH last posted x

Well I've had an interesting weekend. Went to Ikea on Saturday, but was in quite a bit of discomfort, thought I had a urine infection, came home (2hrs journey) just after an hour of being there and rang the out of hours doc who asked to see me, she then sent me to labour ward. I was contracting every minute but not lasting very long, much much stronger than BH but didn't feel like labour contractions.

Have any of you guys had this happen? It's apparently an irritable uterus and can bring on prem labour. I'm 30 weeks and need to be cooked for a while longer really, otherwise I'll be shipped out to another hospital hours away. They did this magic test (although mortifying to have people you work with see your bits!) and it said it was 99% sure I wouldn't labour with the next two weeks. Phew - but blimmin nora it's unconfortable! Some of the contractions are much much stronger than others and quite literally take your breath away.

Apparently I have to drink tons of water, so I'm afloat, struggled trying to work and walk, now home for a couple of hours of peace before school pick up.

Exhausting this pregnancy business isn't it?!!!:(

Hugs to all those that need it, welcome to all the newbies, labour vibes to our due and over cooked ladies. Thinking of you all :)

MGEB that was Barksavingmads original post about it, think it could be worth calling MW saying you had a show and they might be able to do whatever this *magic test* involves or give steriods then just hassle them not to admit you for longer than necessary? HUGS to you, hope it doesn't mean you having to stay in:(

I had post traumatic stress after my 6th and 8th so no I am really not looking forward to it.. I amwith a new partner who has no children so this is his first so he is terrified anyway.

I have had prem babies so they have all been in hospital.. and 5 were in SCBU for up to 3 weeks.

No nice plain sailing type births here.. my quickest was 16.5 hours.. and 3 were 3.5 DAYS!

I almost died with 2 of them, we almost lost 4 of the babies.. but we are all fine and here. :D

I am refusing point blank to go to the local hospital but looking at Leeds (65 miles) and Manchester (100 miles) because the standard of care here is so appallingly low.

Quite frankly the whole idea of this baby arriving is frightening the living daylights out of me.. and I am trying to block it from my mind entirely until it is here!! I don't want to go to hospital.. and by delayig booking in at one I feel I am delayig the awful awful prospect of either me or the baby being killed by their negligence and stupidity.

I am refusing ALL antenatal [STRIKE]harassment[/STRIKE] appointments because I cannot cope with the ignorance and prejudice and ineptitude and total rudeness of ALL the staff.

I'd quite happily have mine at home, unassisted and left alone.

I am so stroppy noone DARE touch me lol.. and I talk to so few people at school noone would pass comment unless they wanted their head placing up someone elses bottom.. I have no time for rude or ignorant people.. though it has only been common knowledge for the last week at school 3 people have told me how wonderful I look, but that I am absolutely huge.. which I know already.. and it won't get any smaller for people pointing it out! I gained 5 stone with 3 of the children and so far have managed 1.5 stone.. at 18 weeks!!! Good job mine come early!! lol. On past experience I have about another 14/15 weeks .. to get my kitchen, bedroom, girls room, DD1's room and the boys room decorated...

    Thank You for your reply:)

You have really had a tough time with some of your pregnancies/births and I suppose the more children you have the more you have had to deal with rubbish health 'professionals'!

I know what you mean about blocking it out and being in denial...although I have never experienced anything near as bad as you have, I am just not looking forward to it!

Hopefully this time it will be an easy one for you.....Will this be your last now or are you keeping the option open for more?

    Mel x
