Like you Som I didn't bother getting a car seat to go with a travel system as it would be tempting. I just have a maclaren that lies flat, and the britax first class that goes from birth to 4 years.

The most important thing for me is that baby could be rear facing as long as possible as in some countries they aren't supposed to be forward facing until age 4, as this is when the neck muscles are developed enough to stop the spinal cord detaching from the skull in the event of a serious accident. Before then a childs head is disproportionally large for the body, so the muscles aren't strong enough to support the impact! My DD is still rear facing at 20 months and can carry on for a little while yet. It really annoys me that despite lot's of evidence that this is the safest way for small children to travel the government still say 9 months is fine to face forward.

    sorry mini rant! :D
  • I have to be honest they never made any fuss about it when i had the other two and they were transfered to forward facing seats as soon as they were big enough (another reason for me to be on the bad mummies thread lol) having read up on it now though bubs will be rear facing for as long as possible :-)

I never knew that about the car seats so thanks for the info.

How do you get round this if you're taking baby on a long journey? We have family in Newcastle which would be 2 and a half hours.

fernlie - the reason those countries keep there children facing reward so long and yet the law here doesnt require it is down to accident rates. Those countries are mainly the nordic ones where they have lots of bad weather and there traffic accidents are far more common and alot worse due to conditions. Same way that Volvos always have head lights on, because there law requires it beacause of the bad weather and its alot darker more often there. The reward facing car seats are available here in the UK but cost alot more money. Also if you read something like the which report it explains they are really awkward to fit and chances of them being installed incorrectly are very high, there fore the seat becomes useless and dangerous. Its all a minefield really for most parents, but as a trained car seat fitter and with a fair bit of knowledge I would stick to using whats recommended here in the UK for our cars and condition, but thats just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own. If you really want the best and have it in your car then Isofix is best everytime.

Take breaks is the answer, even 10-15 minutes is fine and either hold the baby so there straight up and down or lie them down, maybe in the car or go have a drink in the cafe and lie them down or if their big enough pop in a high chair. If there bigger then as long as its only occasional journey or maybe asleep and your happy that there comfy you could drive straight thru, but dont make a habit of it.

We have a 2 hour drive to OH's family in Manchester so have the same issue.. we have checked out the motorway services while I've been pregnant as I've had to stop at most of them just to pee at some point.. we now know the nice places to stop and the ones to avoid!! lol.

Just stopping every so often and getting baby out for a stretch is fine.. you don't even have to go in just sit in the car park.. with your flask and picnic!

In the first few weeks though you'll probably need to change yourself in that time and baby is unlikely to go that long without demanding a feed and bum change.

    Morning :)

Well the pains completly stopped now, i dont even feel the dull ache anymore :(

I still need to get measured and buy my nursing bra's, i shall do it monday i think since im going into town to get my parcel from the PO.
Im going to get measured in mothercare then go to matalan to buy some bra's :D
Even though when i got measured for pregnancy bra's in mothercare they said i was a 40DD, pre pregnancy i was a 36DD, and throughout this whole pregnancy i've had to have the 40DD on the tightest hooks with the straps pulled tight to keep it fitting me :o

OH is working until 6pm today and i feel really lonely now lol. Im readingthe first twilight book again and i think i might get out the carpet cleaner stuff i bought and clean the dirty patch on the carpet from when we moved in :)

Oooh guess what?! We're getting a play pen for free :D
SIL doesn't use hers at all, and was going to sell it. But IL's said that since they bought it and not her, she should give it to us as we want one and cant afford one :D:D:D:D
