Hey all, i haven't had a chance to catch up, i'm really sorry, we're having a horrible couple of days. I wanted some help and some advice and damn good hug really because Austins feeding is getting worse and worse....
When we first started breastfeeding at the hospital he took a couple of days before he would latch on both sides (preferred right) but by the time we left 3 days after my section he was feeding on both sides. After that we went from strength to strength, he fed quickly and efficiently and although I had painful letdown and refill pain for a few weeks we got through it and thought that was the hard stuff over with.He would easily drain a boob in 8-10 mins. From 8 weeks though he started pulling off whilst feeding, pulling my nipple with him, he doesn't do it right at the beginning of a feed but will often start only a few minutes in and then just carries on for the rest of a feed, pulling off, crying fussing and screaming and then latching on again, taking a few more sucks and then pulling off, crying, fussing again. I went to a couple of breastfeeding support groups, the first said maybe it was bad latch but i didn't agree because he never had any issues feeding before and i've had no discomfort whilst feeding and I know i can tell on the times when he's latched on badly. The next group said that maybe he wanted more of the faster flow milk to start with and that i should swap boobs when he fussed and put him to the other breast. I started doing that, and it didn't really help but has now left me with another problem. He prefers my left breast because it has a fast flow, and swapping him to left when he started on right meant that he took most of his feed on left. But when i started on left he would sometimes not really go over to the right so the right boob has been getting less and less stimulation which is think is just making the problem worse and worse. I'm now at breaking point, every feed is a fight, whichever breast he's on, he's screams, hits me, pushes at the breast, and as soon as i take him off he bellows until i put him back on and then sucks for 30 seconds and it all starts again, I don't know what to do, I've been fighting through this feeding issue for weeks and weeks and weeks and I just don't know how much more i can take, his problem feeding with my left side has meant I've had a blocked duct and now we think i have mastitis in that side, i'm on anitbiotics and am supposed to feed through the problem but he fights so much and it's already so painful that every feed is 30mins to an hours of tears, from both me and Austin.
I dont know what to do....sorry that was such a long post but i just need to get this out....there's no joy in feeding anymore, i dread every feed....0 -
Is there such thing as baby rice cakes, or are they just ordinary plain-as-you-can-find rice cakes?
Ta!
Ooo - they are not plain at all, Benjamin has apple ones and blackcurrant ones and all sorts!!

Bruno, are you around? You were asking a while ago about those two pinelodge parks we've (now) been to.. I'd probably choose the first one we went to over the most recent, purely because the pub/restaurant on site was a friendlier welcome at Darwin, plus they have a new indoor play area for the little ones opening early next year too. I just rememebered because I just got an email saying Darwin has just been voted the Best in Britain for lodges and parks by Hoseasons (out of 400 parks)
The website is www.pinelodgeholidays.co.uk.
Thanks Elle! Much appreciatedquite possible next-year target!
Bruges is wet and rainy and cold and staying in a hotel in this weather with a non-stop toddler is stressful!
Organix also do rice-cakes with flavouring for babies - apple, some sort of berry, etc.0 -
*huge hugs* Hypno!
Have you tried expressing and bottle feeding? How does that go down with Austin?
3, MFD and Bruno - many thanks. I'll have a looksee next time I'm in Tesco (wanna go now!)
Bruno, how long are you away for? Is the weather set to improve any for the rest of your stay? :cool:0 -
Oh Hypno - sounds like you are having a really tough time of it.
Have you tried any new positions? Rugby hold or laying down?
If it is any consolation I have a RL mummy friend who only feeds from one boob and she is still going strong at 15+ months so it can be done if that is an option for you.
((HUGS)) hun

Minimal sleep here too!
We stayed downstairs (new suite is very comfy) and she slept on me, waking up about every half hour to be sick!
She finally drank some water this morning at about 6, and within 15 minutes her tummy was growling - and she did the most vile smelling liquid poop!
She had some more water about half an hour ago - and no more rumblings yet.
Phoned work and will take today as flexi, and go in on Friday to make up the hours. (OH is off Friday).
When I collected her from nursery yesterday, there was only a few babies in. I commented on how quiet it was and they said they have quite a few off sick with 'that tummy thing'.
So it took two days of nursery for her to catch some nasty germs - that's really helping my nursery guilt!
Sounds like good old viral tummy upset if it's that acid vomit inducing smell.
Don't feel guilty about nursery, she could have gotten it whether there or not. It's good for her immune system, thats one virus she will never get again0 -
What've they done Searchie?
I don't want them thanks - i've already got my own semi-disfunctional family!:beer:0 -

It was that sulforus (sp) nasty acid stench.
Nothing since though, and the rice cake has stayed down.:beer:0
