can I ask a question of the SAHM's - now people are going back to work do any of you worry what your LO is misisng out on by not being at nursery?! I'm starting to wonder.........
Aimee didn't go to any nursery as a baby although she did go to a play group a couple of afternoons a month (1hr, 45min sessions) from 20 months until a couple of months after she'd started school nursery at 3. I think she's extremely sociable with children her own age and older/younger and is very articulate when talking to adults... I don't think she missed out on anything...

Caitlyn's been asleep since we got in from our morning group! Any money she wakes up just as I have to leave and fetch the girls from school... My right boob could well explode...

On flu jabs... Hubby's getting his next week, but he had a pluerectomy 5 years ago so it would be quite worrying if he did get swine flu as it affects the lungs more than regular flu... As for the children, I don't know... I'm scared to... And scared not to...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

    No.

When I was a supply teacher I did nursery work in two different nurseries because the agency was short of nursery nurses and there wasn't much demand for teachers. I actually feel sick when I think about it as I found them to be such awful places. Although it is highly unlikely I would ever have chosen to use a nursery anyway, the experience made me resolve to never ever send any child of mine to one.

What do you think a child misses out on by being cared for full time by a parent rather than partly by a nursery?

  • Just to point out that not all nurseries are like the ones you worked in Susan !! The one Jasmine went to was fantastic and I know quite a lot of the staff there and they are all really happy there too

That's the word I was thinking of but it's not that - obstetrics is pregnancy related stuff. I found the letter - I meant to say orthoptics :D

    How did physio go?

Isn't that who you see if you're pregnant?

Well, guess what.. I was early for the hospital appointment! :D:p

Eye lady (whatever the job title is for someone who works in the Orthoptics Dept!) said Rhys was ever-so-good with the test today. I couldn't see what he was doing cos he was sat on my knee, facing her. She wants him to see the consultant again (the one who used to check his eyes in SCBU) to look into his eyes and check the muscles and for long-sightedness. She's not hugely concerned, just wants to look deeper next time. She said the cross-eyed thing is okay cos he's doing it with both eyes, but she wants him checked in case there is a reason he moves his head to look round at something without looking all the way with his eyes, iyswim. Am not fretting about it, the drops to widen his pupils aren't nice, but I'm happy he'd being checked up on :) There's nothing we can/need to do before the next appointment, except she gave me some eye patches so he can practise wearing them and it's not such a surprise when he's next tested.

Re: swine flu.. doesn't it work the same as the other flu jab and doesn't prevent catching it, just lessens the symptoms? Rhys' is in January so time to think it through yet but it is recommended for him.

My friend yesterday was telling us about what happened to one of the comms nurses. She went to visit a mum and baby and mum said she wasn't feeling very well. She stayed half an hour, then left and went off to visit other babies. Nurse phoned the first mum later on to confirm something, asked how she was and the reply was "Oh, I'll be alright, will just keep taking the Tamiflu..." - yes, that's right, she'd got confirmed swine flu and hadn't seen right to inform the nurse before the nurse went off visiting other sick babies!!!
Chris refuses to wear the patch so is still on their books because they haven't been able to test him properly:rolleyes:
Aimee didn't go to any nursery as a baby although she did go to a play group a couple of afternoons a month (1hr, 45min sessions) from 20 months until a couple of months after she'd started school nursery at 3. summed it up perfectly!
