I used to put Alice in the big cardboard box the car seat base came in with a load of toys sometimes to stop her getting into things. Also for a while if I stood her up at a dining chair (with a toy on it for her to play with), she couldn't get down so would just stand against the chair playing. Have you got any toys with you? Plastic bottles filled with rice or lentils are good. Also old biscuit tins and large plastic tubs work well as drums. At this age I found it useful to have alternatives readily available so that there was something to play with instead of the forbidden things. I also used to sit Alice in the high chair with a couple of toys to watch me in the kitchen when I was doing cooking. Do you get junk mail and leaflets through the door? I seem to remeber them being very entertaining when Alice was around Toby's age.
I'll try to have a look through old photos later to see if I can come up with any more ideas.
I have to second susan's ideas here - I had a chat with HV about LO being obsessed with playing with wires etc. She explained that they are too young yet to get the idea of NO and are not being naughty - just investigating things. She suggested distraction was the best method and trying to save the word NO for the most important/dangerous situations.
LO loves an empty milk carton with rice or pasta in it. A wooden spoon to bang with in the highchair is good too. she eats paper unfortunately:rotfl: but I gave her the strong cardboard innertube from the kitchen roll yesterday and that kept her entertained for about 30 minutes:TNeedless to say - the cheaper the 'toy' the better the fun:rolleyes::D
r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Hi all - haven't read back yet as I'm (as always) really swamped here so just got time for a quick post during my morning coffee.
Anyway my news is :-
OH and I have had our first pre-christmas [STRIKE]row[/STRIKE] discussion lol. Almost a christmas tradition here .
Archie has had a bad cold - high temp, runny nose followed by a chesty cough. I'm wondering here how long you lot wait till taking a chesty cough to the dr. I usually wait a week and look for signs of improvement but OH thinks that is too long....Maybe I'm a bit scared to venture there cause a drs surgery is the perfect place to pick up more germs. Last year I was really bad and never went to the drs at all...just struggled through for two months until it got <gradually> better.
Biggest bit of news here though is that we now have another little one in the house - "smudge" joined our family yesterday and was very nearly joined by a gorgeous tabby sibling. The only thing that stopped me running away with said sibling is that the insurance for two cats starts to become expensive - not to mention regular vets stuff!
Will post pics later (if I can remember how).
Hope everyone is ok. Now gonna catch up a bit and be back later.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -
Sorry Em, hope you weren't offended by my little rant about car seats. Fair enough if you are making the best of what you have, but it's the ones that have bought a huge pram with everything and they still insist on using the car seat and then wonder why the baby is cranky. By the way, both the boys were in lie flat pushchairs, DS1 a 3 wheeler from mothercare (chocolate brown urban detour awesome buggy) and DS2 an el cheapo travel system from argos (£100 one) and they were in them from 2 weeks old (and they were 5lbers), never did them a bit of harm
DS1 is ill again. They got up at 5.12am and he was fine, come 8.15am he was looking well dodgy and is now asleep. Chalk white, grey eyes, sore tummy and head. Thought we had had all our noroviruses for the year! Is it just me or are they super virulent this year? Thats the past 3 weeks one of us has had one, DS1 is onto his 3rd (possibly 4th) in 3 weeks. They are not getting reinfected here, I have scrubbed the bathroom several times.0 -

Damn bank have declined my credit card at Amazon. I've been doing a load of ordering for christmas from them as I was offered free prime trial for a month so was abusing the priviledge. It'll take me to call them to sort it out !!!!!! - why they can't be bothered to contact me asap once they refer my card annoys me!
and the childrens centre have called and cancelled our meeting this morning - suppose I should do some housework instead:heart2: Charlie born Aug 2007 :heart2: Reece born May 2009

Thanks for the advice. I've got loads of toys here, more than at home! Toby also has a walker, a ride on cow and a three story dolls house! There is a huge bucket of toys in the living room. It is the same at home though, nothing is as wonderful as telephones, wires, buttons and ornaments. Current favourite thing to do is to crawl over to the mantelpiece and throw Mum's nice things around!
Feeling okay so far this morning. Toby has just eaten some shreddies and going to have some yogurt now (yay for bibs!).
Hope everyone is okay todayStay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0
