 My computer was broken for two weeks and you've all talked for 215 pages! Anyone care to give me a recap on anything significant I've missed?

I think 208 of the pages were people wondering where you were! ;):D

We missed you! Update on your status please! :)

    Hi there

Has anyone any gems of wisdom to share on getting their newborn off to sleep. I've been wandering up and down the hallway rocking baby to sleep but that sometimes takes an age and I'm wondering if I'm building a dependency on me. Any techniques you can share woul dbe gratefully received......

    Lisa

Like everyone else so far, don't worry about a routine at this age, at all.
On the other hand, if it's not working well (taking ages) you should try whatever other stuff, just in case. Falling asleep on the breast was a life-saver in the early days for us... rhythmic patting of the back/backside sometimes worked better than rocking... lying them down and singing lullabyes while holding their hand... Good luck! Let us know what you go with, it's very very frustrating.

I only have 11mins of lappy battery left and I can't charge it cos I'm expressing so I may disappear soon. Will be back tomorrow though.

Manchester is a bit far away from me (140+ miles). Did anything ever get sorted about a Birmingham meet?

Elle and SM...I can't make the 25th as we've got baby massage but if you like each other (:D) and want to do another mini meet in the new year at Meadowhall, I'll come and meet you. I have family oop there so could combine a visit with a meet. I'm actually coming up on 8th of Dec but have plans all day already :(

Only 8mins of battery to go now...

    Hi . We've missed you!

    Hi Lisa,
I was exactly the same as you. I was adament that I didn't want a clingy baby, but just go with the flow for the first few weeks. She now goes to bed at 7pm in her cot with no problems at all, so all those cuddles to sleep in the early days definitely haven't made her dependent on me for sleeping.

Rocking Caitlin backwards and forwards (rock yourself backwards and forwards) and gently tapping her back or bottom with one hand and making quiet shushing noises helped us. I still do it in the daytime when she won't settle (she's much better going to bed at night than sleeping in the day).

I wish Jack would go to bed on his own  he woke up as soon as I sat down to have my tea at 8pm and after 1hr 40mins of trying to get him off to sleep and ending with him screaming his head off he's now downstairs on Daddy's lap  I feel really worn out and angry cos he wouldn't nap at all today so now he's overtired. I really think that from now on I'll take him out in the pram after his 2pm feed so that he falls asleep. Think he'll be up all night now

So, the night that I thought I was spending with OH has been spent trying to get Jack off to sleep - wouldn't have minded if I was successful!

Where does the time go?

Sadness is building up, can't believe I'm this lonely already!
:grouphug: I was really lonely when I was pregnant and couldn't go anywhere unless OH took me. Do you know many people you can meet up with either by them coming to see you or you going to see them?

some company has just rang and said 'can i speak to your mum or dad'
i said well... my mum lives in ireland and my dad is dead. she went ok then!!

i know i sound younger on the phone but i've never been asked if my mum or dad is there lol!!!
A few years ago when we went on holiday with some friends, the owner of the cottage phoned on the first evening and when I answered she asked to speak to one of the ladies. I never worked out whether she thought I was a child or a man.

Alice has got so into colouring now that I have to sharpen her coloured pencils multiple times a day - I'm seriously considering an electric sharpener but I don't know whether you can get them for fat pencils. We had a four hour bonfire on bonfire night to get rid of a mountain of wood from the garden so now the heap of junk on the patio is much smaller. My mum's been stalking me on ebay so she knew I'd been buying Alice dresses. Alice's switch from naps to "quiet time" has been successful. Today we got a rug for the living room to cover the scabby carpet for £10.

    Is that okay?

  • Evening all. Welcome Back Susan :)

We've had a fun day today - went to my cousin's little boys first birthday party (not sure what relation that makes him to me?) We all had a great time. Playing with toys to start with, they had got the kinder music (or something similar) teacher to come along and do a session, which was great fun. Comedy moment of the day was Izzy falling into the box of musical instruments head first because she wanted to play with ALL the instruments! We played instruments, did the hokey cokey, there were bubbles and we played with a big parachute.

Then the children all sat at a big table for tea. I was a mean mummy, and didn't let her eat any chocolate fingers or party rings, but she loved breadsticks and ate loads of grapes and rasins and was eating grated cheese with her fingers which impressed me no end. All the other children got down from the table to play, but she was enjoying her food so much she was still eating when everyone else was going home - everyone was laughing at her :)
