Beenie this was posted on the ARM group recently
Here is a post from our forum that might be of interest:
The NICE guidelines will tell you that the risk is 1 in 1000 at 40 weeks and
will go up to 3 in 1000 at 42 weeks. These guidelines are based on seven
babies that died.
Of those 7 ...
- 2 died in the 1960's
- 1 baby had meconium aspiration following refusal of induction of labour by
its mother after a positive amnioscopy
- 1 baby had pneumonia
- 1 had meconium aspiration at 43+3 weeks which means nothing at 41 or 42
weeks
- 1 was 2.6 grams and the mother had no antenatal care
- 1 was a placental abruption which could happen any time.
Reference for this is Routine induction of labour at 41 weeks gestation:
nonsensus consensus, Menticoglou and Hall British Journal Obstetric &
Gynecology 2002
http://www.lamaze.org/Research/WhenResearc...73/Default.aspx
In more recent larger randomized studies, there is no difference at all in
mortality and morbidity between induction and monitored groups of women
going past 41 weeks. The AIMS booklet on induction is full of references.
It's very important to remember that 40 weeks is an arbitrary date. It came
about by mistake a hundred years ago. It is in no way correlated to average
or optimum gestation in human beings.
Naegle devised a method for calculating 10 lunar months, which was known to
be the average length of pregnancy. His calculations assume that lunar
months are 28 days, but they're not.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naegele's_rule
The average length of gestation for a first pregnancy is more than 41 weeks.
The WHO definition of normal term is 37 to 42 weeks, 'due date' has no real
meaning.0 -

I'm not a big news guy! Stuff just ticking along, I am keeping up with the thread but often at work or whatnot and with nothing exciting to update you all with I have spates of not postingI am not offended, upset, or failing to log in though
ManOnTheMoon wrote: »Very true. I do feel strange as one of only two men though. I need Bruno here. I need him more than his OH. Oh Bruuuuuuuuuuuno
Lol, I'm here and entirely manlyHaven't been much bothered about being male on the thread for quite a while though ;p sometimes the laydeez go on a man-hating hunt for a few hours and I just stay quiet
most of the time they are very well-behaved though!
Except SM - OMG SM BE QUIET :shhh:
That reminds me, if this thread never gets closed we will never have the final thread statistics and SM will not get her gold medal
I love hearing about people's random ramblings on their lives (including SM's!). Everyone is different and it's just a sort of harmless innocent voyeurism when we get to hear about other people's circumstances and what's mattering to them right now, good or bad. I am an especial fan of baby pics though0 -
Right, lets see how long this lasts.. OH has been sparko on the sofa since 7pm so Rhys is fed, watered (well, milk), changed and in bed.
Oh, anyone watching BBC1? Crying baby on screen and I was looking at the monitor, wondering why the lights weren't flashing, thinking it was Rhys!
He's in his crib, awake...
I do this all the time!! I have to give the monitor to hubby every evening because otherwise I end up with it stuck to my ear all evening!!
:T - I like your attempt at getting Rhys in bed...but seeing as you have been feeding him at night (rice cakes and then Sweet and Sour IIRC!!) then you may find he wakes wanting food later!
When I first started weaning I found it really hard to fit 3 meals into a day with milk feeds in between, the key is to make sure breakfast is early enough!!
Just in case you may be interested (!) we aim for breakfast between 8 and 9, lunch between 12 and 1 and dinner between 5 and 6.
Then milk feeds when he wakes, both boobs, sometimes with a nap in between!! 11am bottle, 3pm bottle, possibly a booby feed about 4.30pm and then a night-time booby feed when he is ready for bed (could be 6, could be 7).Whaddya mean you didn't ask

Beenie I was induced at T+5 because of a problem with my amniotic fluid, and although it turned into a horrible birth complete with oxygen mask (me), crashing heartrate (her) and an emergency section, if we'd left her to come naturally she wouldn't have made it. I'm still devastated about the whole thing because it was so very medicalised and I really, really didn't want it all to happen that way. But Molly goes some way towards making me feel better about it - you do what you feel is right, whatever it is, and then you deal with the consequences knowing you made the best decision you could with the information you had available.
Does that make sense?
I've moved on from being angry, now I'm mostly just really upset at the way my brother's spoiled the visit and concerned at how it will affect Christmas.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
Three gifts left to buy0 -
Krystal - if you're still here...go!!!!
Scruffy - hope the move goes OK.
PinkPig - Caitlyn is soo cute in her jumperoo.
Jillie - they're opening quite a few new SureStart centres, so maybe you'll get a new one close to you. Also, have a look on YouTube ideas for tunes and actions to some of the songs.
Glam - Jack looks very happy in his bumbo. What a cutie!
Maz - CONGRATULATIONS to you!!!! I like all five of the names you mentioned.
SeptemberBaby - oh no :-( how awful for you. I hope Jamie is on the mend now.
Mookie - I can't find your post about Leila but reading other people's posts, it sounds like she is poorly too, so sending get well vibes your way.
Tia - have a great time at the nativity tomorrow
BM - uh oh, I have a feeling those cats are going to be out of favour for quite a while!!!
SS - your brother sounds like a nightmare. How old is he?
Has anyone heard from Caz?
Elle - lovely picture of Rhys, looking as gorgeous as ever. Next will swap it for you and will order the smaller size in if they have it in their warehouse. My friend bought Caitlin a 3-6 month hat, 0-3 month slippers and 6-9 month romper suit (all Christmassy ones). The hat was too big, the slippers too small and the romper suit could have almost fitted two of her in, so I went in to Next without the receipts and they ordered the right size of everything in for me. How much does Rhys weigh now?
Claire - I didn't know you had pnd hun. Glad you're getting support though.
Tinkerbell - sounds like the Christening went down well. Do we get to see some pics?
Sami - I vaguely remember some talk on here a while ago about a cup that you get free in one of the Emma's Diary or Bounty packs. Is that the same cup?
Claire's message made me remember something else - I stopped BF last week. Quite sad at it coming to an end but I'm pretty sure Caitlin wasn't getting enough from me to sustain her for long enough. I haven't had any pain/feeling engorged (I haven't worn breast pads for at least two months ) so I think it was probably the right time, although I do miss it :-(
This has taken me ages to write as Caitlin stirred so I tried to feed her. I just ended up waking her up more which wasn't the point :-(
And now I have a message to ring DH's uncle as he needs me to make some changes to his website. I WILL write at least one Xmas card tonight....at some point!!!!!!0 -
((hugs)) ss ... cant your mum have a word? x
Still searching .....:)
