I totally respect your OHs right to spend his money however he likes. We all work hard and I never mean my frugal ways to sound evangelical, or that I think others, 'should' do it IYSWIM? For me I think it's just that a meal however lovely, is over in 15 mins and then is on it's way to becoming poo, so I don't rank it as a high spending priority:rotfl:

But I totally know I'm in a minority there! Once we feel we've achieved our MSE goals I expect we will allow ourselves more treats though :)

The amount of rules your DH has about the food budget would irk me a bit if I was shopping and cooking for him though, I hope that doesn't sound too cheeky Mel x

:rotfl:Believe me, it does more than irk me a bit:rolleyes:

You know hat I would also respect him a bit more if he did work hard for 'his' money!! He hasn't worked for years, mainly due to mental health problems, and maybe I am a bit harsh on him sometimes....but I don't really respect anythng about him, I think he is lazy and self-centred. He has the gift of the gab (learnt from his mum) and so smooth talking always makes people think he is something he isn't (if that makes any sense at all)

They're 'cheap wine' from a discount store - £3.99 probably tastes like wee... Hardy's crest usual price £8.99 is currently on offer at £3.99 in morribobs - my mum has bought 24 bottles because its her fave :D

It costs the vineyards about £4-ish to get the wine into the bottles, so anything less than that and they're basically paying you to take it off their hands. I won't buy wine with an RRP under £10, but then I am a wine snob and this is where my priority is. I will drink a €40 bottle of wine with oven chips and value bread rather than buy crap wine.

    Wine Evangelism!!
Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

    LOL weezl!

My proudest OS moment was getting some Quorn sausages reduced to 50p, I did a casserole thing with them, tinned toms and some haricot beans. I didn't tell hubby they wasn't any meat in it and he said it was the best saus casserole he'd ever had :D

.. Theres not really a MSE way to get cheese lol

A whole compartment of my freezer is taken up by the biggest bag of grated cheddar you've ever seen in your life! MIL got it from a nearby food factory which was closing down.. we have huge jars of dried herbs for the same reason. Christ knows what we're going to do with them all! (I want my freezer space back and to be able to buy Double Gloucester again without OH giving me that "ungrateful" frown too, dammit!)

I know a household that does the "cheap cereal in branded boxes" trick too :money:

I'm glad your money situation is sorting itself out - also worth noting that while you're at home during the day and OH is out, you could buy large packets of fresh value mince, portion them out and freeze in bags as opposed to in the packet. Dispose of the evidence and he'll never know :money:

My OH can spot che4ap mince a mile away. Its 'bouncy' apparently  I have it in my spag bol cos he doesn't eat that but its got to be steak mince if we're all having it.
The only things he is fussy on are mince, cheese and kellogs cornflakes

How much are the Costco baker bags? I get a 25kg bag of Maris Piper for £5 if I can get to the market or £8 for King Edwards from the farm shop if I can't. I usually just rake the bag for big ones! OH won't entertain a Jacket without cheese. Theres not really a MSE way to get cheese lol

I 'should' buy value mince, but I can't bring myself to eat value meat....
Also since his mum gave him organic milk, we HAVE to have that now too, apparantly there is a difference in taste.....We do have normal milk if we run out though and have to get it from the local shop...but then it is dearer there anyway.

Elle, very jealous of your huge bag of cheese:) I luuuurve cheese
